Former colleagues come to KU coach Mangino’s defense

If you step back and look at the big picture in regards to our losses this year, one thing is visible. We had tons of injuries and we are playing with alot of young players. Much like 2006. Do you remember how many close games we had that season? How many we blew in 4th quarter? It was a tougher rotation on the schedule as well just like this season. Before this new broke, we were positioned well for the next two years of a softer schedule. Players will be older and more experienced next year and we have( or maybe had) the best recruiting class we have ever assembled. Unfortunately now we are all blowing in the wind waiting for the fall out because people can be so fickle over one season. The instant gratification society we live in today just plain sucks.

Wright’s role clarified

Could someone please give this person "KU" a hug. Obviously needs one.

Mangino's contract outlines probe

I couldn't agree with the majority of you more. Lew took the approach of dragging Mangino through the dirt to fire Mangino. Which I am sure was called for by the big ticket boosters. I wonder how many boosters told Lew they would buy one of the new luxury seats, if only he fired Mangino and brought in someone new. Losing 5 games straight does something to boosters and you see the pettiness all across college football. Don't get me wrong we need their money just as much as we need the small cahnge i throw into the pot, but our administration needs to be running this program not the boosters. The short of it is if Lew wanted him out then fire him and give him the buyout instead of embarassing the university by dragging a coach through the dirt. We keep talking about how this hurts recruiting for players. Imagine how other prospective coaches will look at this situation. Lew better have something big in his back pocket or this won't end well for him either.

KU's Chancellor issues statement putting support behind Lew Perkins

I cannot i say I agree or disagree with Mangino's treatment of players since it is all hearsay at this point and no fact. What I can say is that I stand by his ability to coach and also one of the little thought about provisions given to us to be innocentuntil proven guilty. Unfortunately the court of the media has already persecuted Mangino and it will be hard to change opinions regardless of the outcome.
The staff at KU, most importantly Lew, have handled this poorly. It is being handled more like a smear campaign that an internal review or fair investigation from my veiwpoint.

Not-so-gentle reign

Is it a co-incidence that all the players speaking out against Mangino were benched at various times for disciplinary reasons? I think not. Maybe we should call J.R. Giddens and see if he has any negative comments about Bill Self. Nice reporting and digging for dirt LJW. This whole ordeal looks a whole lot like a lynching to me due to a bad season and angry boosters. I don't recall any allegations of player abuse ever coming from KSU or OU while he was a coach there. I don't recall him threatening to send anyone back to their homeys at KSU and that my friends was a team full of thugs. Coach is right when he said that when your not winning every one dislikes someting your doing.

Investigation under way

The deal is the incident gave Lew an excuse since it is obvious that the alumni are wanting Mangino out. College football has become a petty organization where no loyalty exists, only the voice of the boosters. Nebraska is a fine example of how this happened when they fired Solich and fell off drastically. Mangino is not perfect(part of being human) but he did build this program. Unfortunately that means nothing these days to fans who think every coach that can't win them a championship should be fired. I say its time for all those complaining to get out there check books because championship teams take $$$$. If we don't want to fall backward the new head coach better be in the $3M a year range or we never should have considered firing the 2007 Coach of the Year.

KU AD Perkins meets with football players over concerns about coach Mark Mangino

Mangino built this program and that pretty building and practice feild next to the stadium, yet I do not see alot of gratitude anywhere on this post. I think everyone forgets the success that Mangino has had at every school he has been part of; including the University of Kansas. Sure 2007 felt great but it was a season that everything clicked perfectly as well as KU playing on the soft side of the schedule with KSU and Nebraska also having a dismal year. We are still building a program and Mangino does not need to turn it around. This year look a heck of alot like 2006 where we lost 4 of the 5 games either in 4th qtr or OT.

We are a better team that we look by our record just like we were in 2006. We just need to make some adjustments and catch some breaks and keep plugging.

And I am sorry but having a player control your program because his feelings were hurt by a couch reeks of Mizzou.

Limited production

http://www.kansas.rivals.com/content.... IF you haven't read it you should. As a long time Kansas football fan and follower of the team good and bad I think anyone who has negative words should read this article. Quigley is finally the voice for a team that is hurting from both loss and from the statements made by "fans". Keep your head up Hawks I haven't given up on you as many of the true fans have not either. 3 games left and anything can happen. Just ask Texas after two losses to a very poor K-State team.

FINAL: Daniel Thomas runs for 183 yards in KSU's 17-10 victory over KU

I agree. We need to start looking to develop Pick for next season. I do not think that this season is hopeless, ut it is obvious that Reesing is struggling with something that is not getting fixed. Everyone keeps saying he is okay and is a competitor but after a couple bad plays he starts rolling downhill fast. I obviously cannot diagnose the issue, but it cannot be denied.
However, this game does not fall solely on his shoulders as we did miss two FG that should have been made easily. Heck, he made the toughest one of the three.
We knew coming in the run game would be difficult to stop as Thomas is legit, but we were also beaten coverage over and over. Fortunately, Gregory's accuracy is subpar and he over threw open recievers a half dozen times.
At this point if Nebraska wins against OU I hope they win out and take the North so the bottom feeder KSU fans won't get to gloat.
We just need to beat Mizzou.
One more thing. Anyone who wants to critize Mangino should change their fanhood to one of the teams down the road. We wouldn't even be disappointed about today without him because before him we didnt even compete and before him we would have never had the chance to get those shiny new facilities. Dominance is not built overnight, but without fan support in good times and bad, dominance can never be achieved.
