Self: KU needs Tharpe to be irreplaceable

Oubre (SG/SF) is undoubtedly a great get, and adding Alexander (PF) would be even greater. However, while I would be estatic with just those two committing, I struggle with our quest for a C and PG out of this '14 class. With NT, FM and CF returning, I think pursuing a '15 PG is more important. If Embiid returns, we will have JE, HM and LL at Center, and thus a '15 C pursuit would be more important. Especially if Zimmerman (C) is available and interested. As always though, I trust Coach Self to be the "Head Chef" when gathering the right ingredients for a NC caliber team, and know we will be fine no matter what.

Freshman KU basketball player on diversion following July citation

Love this kid, and think he could contribute this year. However, I would agree that he is definitely on the bubble for a RS.

Boot Camp is over; Bill Self impressed with Jayhawks

What a roller coaster ride it has been, and continues to be, for predicting CS's rotation of players this season. Appeared to many of us that AWIII was high on the list for RS, and now, not so much. Good for him. And good for NT assuming and asserting his leadership role.

Regarding JE, did I miss any "singled out" "high praise" comments on him by CS over the last 3-4 months? I don't really recall. Personally, I think unless he closes in on his "potential" this season, he either stays, or accepts the fact that his draft stock has diminished to mid-late 1st round. I hope he turns out AWESOME this year, but he is a Freshman, and not a lot of BB experience/history.

I'm also thinking CS goes with 8 solid, and 3 with minor min. Players 7-11 would probably interchange depending player development and game circumstances.

Frankamp picks up pointers from pros

I do like me some CF, and believe he will be a GREAT addition to KU for whatever role he fills, or becomes. Since CS has not really mentioned any high accolades for CF since the Spring, I wonder what role he plays this year, or if he redshirts. Somethings gotta give with 11 potential players, and I trust CS to determine what is best for KU and CF this season. And, as much as I like me some AWIII, it's been all quiet on the western front. Again, we can speculate all day long, but in the end . . . Trust in Self!

Notebook: Ex-KU coach Brown confident in SMU revival

I know a lot can happen between now and next Spring, but I'm of the mindset that landing a 2014 "Center" will be a challenge given our probable returnees - Lucas, Embid, and Mickleson. Not that I wouldn't take another high recruit Center, but I really want Zimmerman in 2015. Should be good timing for all.

Power struggle: Four spot well-stocked during Bill Self decade

News Update: Wiltjer is transfering from UK. Gee, I wonder why? Since it's his decision, I guess he will be eligible in 2014. Will we need him? Do we need him?
