The great escape
Last year this game would have been a loss. With the addition of the freshman, we were able to pull it out. Xavier was a big difference. His presence on the perimeter forced Memphis to come out more than just on Collins. That opened the middle. Even though we missed some very easy shots on the inside, the shots were there. With Collins and Henry outside, the middle is going to be open. Memphis decided they were not going to get beat on the perimeter. Their scouting was good but we are just too loaded to shut down all fronts. I have a feeling that CJ is going to give us another boost as soon as he is healthy and ready. I am hoping that CJ can give us that guard spot that is really hurting. There are so many positives coming from that win last night, it is difficult to see all the negatives. The negatives are there but the positives are glaring. I am very excited about Xavier. The Morris twins showed their improvements. Congratulations Jayhawks. Great win! Great scouting and coaching job by the opposition. I doubt if our perimeter gets shut down again like that all season.

FINAL: KU's defense collapses late in 31-17 loss to Nebraska
This is very disappointing. I'm confident that this team is better than they have been showing but for some reason something is definitely not working. I don't think they have played well since the fight incident. Maybe Reece's injury got into his head. It is very hard to say but his throwing has been really off. It is all just very disappointing. I was looking forward to another bowl game this Christmas season. I guess at this point it is not an impossibility but doesn't appear likely. I know how disappointed the coach's staff and players have to be. There was so much optimism coming into the season. It is just a game and life will be full of disappointments. I will always enjoy watching the Jayhawks play their games.

Taylor welcomes family’s support
This is great news! And it couldn't have come at a better time. Coach Self's approach to a parent coming to town is a very positive one. Taylor probably needed this kind of support and his mother realized it. Times have changed and kids need more today than in times past. Our nation has stopped emphasizing morals, values and responsibility and substituted ideas of relativism, a worthless philosophy. I wonder if Tyshawn could look up Simien. There's a powerful guy who has his head on straight. I am very excited about the possibility of Taylor's future.

Report: KU basketball player Morningstar had nearly twice the legal limit of alcohol in system when arrested
All those young kids that are contemplating similar actions need to hear all about the semester suspension and the embarrassment. Kids worship these players. I hope Brady gets his life together but the reporting is absolutely necessary. The information is well-served. Those who work with young men have the information needed to help guide them. Those who would attempt to justify these actions as "everyone does it" are being very irresponsible towards those young men that need to hear there are actually consequences for this kind of conduct.

Who was KU's MVP against Southern Miss?
How in the world did Toben Opurum get out of Texas? He is going to be a monster running back. I guess you can kind of understand allowing Reesing slip through their fingers but is there a better running back out of Texas than Opurum? If Mangino can get Pick and Opurum a pretty good offensive line and a few good receivers, this could be the best offensive unit in the Big 12 in a couple of years.

Reed leads KU hoops weight exploits
The expectations are so high. Physically, we are going to be tough. However, one mental breakdown in the big game can end it all. Just ask the "Fab Five" of the Wolverines. I wonder if we are mentally tough enough. I know coach knows the importance of mental toughness. I wonder what the guys do to get to that mentally tough point. Another example of a letdown was the Memphis Tigers just a couple of years ago. When Mario hit that shot, it was over. They were done. They had plenty good enough players. However, they didn't have the mental toughness to come back from that disappointing end of regulation. Our boys were the ones that were tough enough. They never gave up even when it seemed there was no hope. That was an amazing game. I still live it. If these guys give us another ride like that one,... what can you say?

Simien hopes to teach more than hoops
Understanding a guy like Simien is difficult for most. It goes to the heart of man and that which drives him. Simien found out early enough that God had a higher calling for him than running around all over the world trying to fulfill a dream of playing basketball at the highest level. He discovered there is actually something in this world greater than playing basketball and that is finding one's purpose in life. Wayne is fulfilling his purpose. Many will question his decision or maybe even see him as giving up the dream. Quite the contrary - Wayne discovered early enough in life that he was called to serve rather than to be served. Wayne is a man after the heart of his Leader.
