Could KU freshman Silvio De Sousa's situation become Billy Preston Part II?

I think that, by far, the worst case scenario is for the NCAA to declare De Sousa ineligible for the 2017-18 season and require that KU vacate the 14th conference title. That is the biggest achievement of the KU program. Lots of programs, including KU, have won national titles. Only one has won 14 consecutive power conference titles. That would be a terrible thing to lose.

Frank Mason III: National Player of the Year

Congratulations Frank. Your honors are well deserved. KU and the Jayhawk fans have benefited greatly from your talent, your dedication and commitment, your loyalty, your presence. You are the very best role model of what collegiate athletics should be about. We wish you every success in the future. We will miss you.

Self, players address fights

Coach Self's press conference was nearly as embarrassing as the incidents that triggered it. It appears certain that there will be essentially no discipline administered for behavior that has degraded the reputation of the University. We can only hope that the new Chancellor will take disciplinary action that the athletic department seems to dismiss as unnecessary. We, the alumni of the University and the dedicated fans of the teams, are told by the coaches and the media to think of these "student athletes" as young gods who deserve adulation and very special treatment. It now appears that such special treatment extends to getting away with any behavior they feel like exhibiting...knowing full well that there will be no serious adverse repercussions. I remain hopeful that the 2009-10 basketball season will be memorable in positive ways, but it will now be stained by the thoughtless actions of a few "student athletes" who, by getting away with it, demonstrate that we, the alumni of the University and fans of the teams, are willing to pay any price for wins. When will that price become too dear?
