Media darlings
Speak, I'd guess it's because Self has found a system that works for him. He's been pretty successful, so I won't gripe. Roy's fresh body approach worked for him and was fun to watch, as is the current system. I prefer the coach use whatever approach they are comfortable with and know how to manage.

Taylor might scrimmage at Late Night
My guess Strong is that Brady broke a set rule, curfew, after the team was told to be especially careful after the fights. As they say in football, it's normally the person who responds to the push or punch that gets penalized. Brady just happened to be that guy and the message was sent.
I think your question is quite legit.

Violent hits take their toll
I don't understand why you feel the NFL should be taking care of these players. You mention the players have made the NFL and their minions (owners?) millions and so somehow they should be paying for the players medical bills. Last I checked, all of the players mentioned also made tens of millions and I would think they could spend thousands to get the best health care insurance available. The ones I feel sorry for are the players in the trenches who are playing for league minimums. While they can still easily afford the best health insurance it becomes a much larger portion of their earnings. Sounds like the player's union should create and fund a health care plan.

Kansas playing dodgeball
I like the fact that the basketball players are going to the football game. At least they are trying to show some support.
I'd suggest getting the football and basketball teams together to do some community work. Charity events are fine, but I'd think working together to clean up a community center or something would be even better. A little team WORK to get something accomplished together will bring people together more than individual punishments ever will.
There definitely seems to be some longstanding ill will between the teams that needs to be resolved.

Bucs’ CB Talib arrested for allegedly hitting cabbie
Wow, JRoss was right. Seemed like a pretty clear case of assault and battery to me. His fellow TB players riding in the car didn't provide any of the excuses we came up with, without any evidence, to excuse Talib. I especially liked the "who cares, it was just a cabbie". We're an insensitive bunch these days.

Jayhawk pioneers deserving
Sounds like the guide should also include A.W. Shepard and Chuck Mather. I'm sure it would have been a lot easier for those two coaches not to include the black kids on their teams. Took some fortitude to ignore prevailing views, knowing you were going to alienate a good portion of your alumni (contributors) and cause people to start calling for your head even if you were successful.
Do we know how Harvey's parents avoided Quantrill's raiders? Some very interesting stories there, from people hiding in rain barrels to the senator hiding out in a field. Of course there were a lot of men and boys who didn't avoid the raiders and were brutally killed.

Crawford's departure creates opportunity at RB
I'm looking forward to seeing Sands against MU. Hope for a little deja vu.

Integrity at issue, not ability
Duke, I don't believe the Star writer went down to OKC to write a smear article. He thought he'd get a vanilla look at the Henry's and write a vanilla article. Instead, Carl treated him like part of the family and told him things that should have remained hidden. Everyone knows that bad news sells and as badly as the Star is struggling a controversial story that gets national attention is the best kind of news. When 610 asked Carl if any of the facts in the article were untrue Carl said no, he just didn't like the way he was portrayed. Carl should have known to sanitize his comments to a writer or require the article be approved by him before it was printed if he was worried about what it would say. It sounds like the article was a very realistic look at the Henrys.
I think we'd all be better served by just keeping quiet, Henrys and fans. Let Coach Self smooth things over. Coach makes a lot of money, but watching this whole thing unfold makes you wonder if its worth it and makes you glad we have someone with Coach Self's equanimity at the helm.

Heights prep Ellis coming to KU camp
He sounds like a great ball player. I was even more impressed with the 4.0 g.p.a. That's hard to do when you're playing high school and AAU ball. Would love to have him come to KU.

KU still lagging in Big 12
The women have twice as many sports as the men? Sounds like there may need to be a Title X to make it even for the men's sports :-).
I believe Title IX should be rewritten to exclude those sports that make money. As previously stated, football brings in the money that allows all the other sports to exist at most schools. At KU, mens basketball also more than pays its own way, but that isn't common. Football also takes the most scholarships of any sport to produce the revenue that pays for the other sports.
As female sports gain more followers and begin to break even, you'd need to find more sports to take their place. It seems like that would provide more opportunities for men and women's sports, while not penalizing the men for the large football contingent that pays for all the sports on most campuses.
