Mangino facing long odds to stay

as a proud jayhawk alum - i think coach mangino is an embarrassment to the program. i like to believe that with our athletic department, the passion of it's fan base, the facilities, the tradition and the conference that we are in - we should expect to be a BCS team - and mangino's mediocre leadership of our program has lifted us up to where we should expect to be every year.

coaches can take a number of tactics in motivating players. there are as many tactics as there are personalities - and great coaches find ways to motivate every personality - but nobody - and i mean NOBODY - can defend the allegations that are leveled against mangino. he has proven himself to be a jerk.

as jayhawks - we should expect - no we should demand - that we compete at the highest level - with the highest level of leaders. coach self fits that mold. is it not too much to ask that we can be as proud of our football team as we are of our basketball team?

Investigation of Mangino launched after player complains coach poked him

mangino is a walking contradiction - on one hand, 2 years ago, he had the most disciplined team in college football - no penalties - no mental lapses - and then on the other hand, he is morbidly obese and unhealthy to say the least.

he can be as guarded as any coach in the big twelve in his comments - and yet he may have lost control of himself and strike a player.

he has brought a lot of pride to the program - and yet he has also brought a lot of embarrassment.

i'm conflicted.

Simien retires from pro hoops

proud of big Dub - somebody we can all be thankful played on the hill. sounds like he's living a responsible life - and affecting people in a positive manner. wish he could have sunk at least one more jump shot in his career at KU - but his legacy in lawrence sounds like it will have more to do with what he did off the court than on - which is ultimately more important.

Don't overlook C.J.'s impact on KU

the rule of thumb has always been that the most improvement a college ball player will make is between their freshman and sophomore seasons. we certainly saw that with the likes of shady, b-rush, mario and ju ju recently. i'm hoping that happens. even with X - i'm not as sold as everyone that we should expect to be in the final four. both of the twins and tyshawn showed some flashes, but they were absolute non-factors down the stretch of the regular season and in the tourney. god bless brady and reed - but those guys have no business starting and playing significant roles on a sweet sixteen team. hopefully the sophomores will up their game enough to settle the rotation.

KU signee scores 14

i think it's cute how a k-state recruit said that KU was their rival - - - sorry mcgruber - we usually have to concentrate on tournament teams

Henry UK visit April 25-26

let's not be too harsh on these guys and how their decision making process plays out. both brandon rush and julian wright made it to the hill with some pretty suspect thinking. the important thing is getting them here. both X and lance would be welcomed contributers to our 2010 national championship. we'd be pleased to be fans of either of them, and i will feel bad next year in march for the other when he gets bounced from the tourney and has to watch what might have been.

Guards to take spotlight today

like coach says - if you're going to sport a mohawk, you better play like a pro.
