Mangino facing long odds to stay
Very well said, afilmer, 63Jayhawk and a few others. I'm glad there are at least some of us who don't try to mindlessly justify extremly abusive tactics. I'm appalled at the number of people who simply say, "That's football" to justify behavior that would not be acceptable ANYWHERE. But of course we're just being politically correct, according to "experts" like hawknhutch, who no doubt has used a rigourous scientific survey to determine that 95% of us support Mangino. I'm almost as embarrased by idiots like him as I am by the actions of Mangino.

Wright’s role clarified
You guys are right that the poke in the chest is very little. Sadly, that's only the tip of the iceberg. There are NUMEROUS other things Mangino has done to show that he does not deserve to remain the coach at KU (or anywhere else for that matter). I will agree with you guys on one thing, though: the associate AD should be fired as well.

Wright’s role clarified
"Ah the famous un-named source. An LJW specialty.
The fact that a source close to the investigation is leaking this information confirms that the investigation is a sham."
You're right, phaedruscj, clearly no one else in the history of journalism has ever used an unnamed source. Are you really that stupid, or are you just trying to get a rise out of people? I can tell you for a FACT (having heard these kinds of stories from multiple players over the years) that this is typical behavior for Mangino. Perhaps you guys are right that the timing is suspect and that Lew wants Mangino out of there. But have you ever thought that maybe one of the reasons he wants him out of there is BECAUSE of things like these? It's funny how you guys seem to care more about the timing of the accusations than the accusations themselves. If these things really happened (and I would say the odds are very high that they did), there is simply NO EXCUSE! To quote one of my friends, who is not a KU fan and thus has an unbiased perspective, if Mangino is really like this he is simply despicable. And no amount of winning in the world (not that he's winnning that much anyway these days, but that's another story) can excuse that type of behavior. I look forward to the day when we can get a football coach with the class of a Bill Self. I would hope we can find someone who can at least keep KU at the mediocre level we're currently at, but I'm fairly confident that with all of Lew's knowledge and connections, he can find someone who has class AND knows can actually make decisions in games that don't drive people insane.

What if KU stuns Texas?
I got tired after reading the first half of the comments so there are plenty that I haven't seen, but I find it remarkable that so many people continue to use time-worn, cliche-ridden phrases about football being tough and a man's game to justify someone who is extremely abusive and is truly despised by virtually every player on the team. (And if anyone questions me about this, let's just say that I have inside information from several former players, including some from recent teams. And yes, MM has put constant pressure on injured players to come back to quickly, even players that have made huge contributions to the program.)
Is football supposed to be tough? Yes. Does it need a large amount of discipline? Yes. Does that mean that a coach should make fun of someone's brother who died a few days ago or make fun of someone's alcoholic parents to show how "tough" he can be. Absolutely not!!!!! To all of these imbeciles who say MM is just being a coach, I'd like to see how you'd feel about someone picking out the most horrible or tragic moment(s) in your life and rubbing your face in it mercilessly -- especially someone who is supposed to be leading and inspiring you to become a better person on and off the field. Why is it so difficult for some people to comprehend that a person can be tough while at the same time actually respecting the people under him. Believe it or not, it is actually possible to do both. (And why does it not surprise me that the same people bitching about the players being soft are Obama haters. It's the typical Republican position: things are either one way or the other, there's no in-between.)
And in case anyone is really that unclear about what MM has been doing, remember that he got banned from going to his son's high school football games because he intimidated an official after a game. This is obviously a man who has serious problems controlling his anger and has a serious lack of respect for other people. Combine that with some of the worst (and most bizarre) decisions I've ever seen in games, and it's time for him to go.
I think I've been in denial for a long time because I was so happy to see KU recover from the long, dark days of Terry Allen and his ilk and get to a respectable level -- and of course the Orange Bowl season was incredible. Because of that, I didn't take seriously all the things I'd heard for years about MM. But at this point I feel kind of dirty rooting for the Jayhawks. I look forward to the day when KU has a coach that can win and also be worth rooting for.

KU football's final three games will be on ABC
Jayhawkjim, you make good points and I don't think we're far apart in our views. If I lived in Lawrence or close by, I would still be going to every game, and I religiously watch every game that's on here. And babyjay, I'm sorry if you took offense to my comments. I don't have a problem with people being berated for saying things that are just plain hateful, but I do have a problem with people saying that you should never criticize the team under any circumstance. The fact is that even though Mangino has done a lot of great things for the program and I will always appreciate that, I seriously question whether he's capable of taking us to the next level. Since he regularly makes bizarre, incomprehensible decisions in games and the play calling is often remarkably predictable, I just don't think he'll be able to ever get us to be a top-tier program on a regular basis. Perhaps he's like a lot of other coaches that are great at resurrecting moribund programs and developing them to a certain point but that don't have the skills to consistently take them further.
One of the most frustrating things about this year is that next year it will probably be back to business as usual when it comes to KU being on TV. It's been so great being able to watch them every game, and I hate the idea of going back to "normal" next year.

Wildcats fired up
Wow, JayhawkCrazy, that's a new low for them -- in fact I'd say it rivals Misuse when it comes to classlessness, which I didn't think was possible even for KSUck.
I do have to mention that I had a nice conversation throughout the game with a couple of KSU fans who actually did show some class. In fact when one jerk kept trying to block my view, one of the KSU fans told him to knock it off. So there are at least a few people there who understand the concept of sportsmanship. Sadly, they seem to be a distinct minority.

Phoenix prep signs with KU
"actorman-two words: Kellen Winslow."
I'm not sure I buy that one when it comes to his playing, since he had that injury from the motorcycle accident early in his career. Who knows how good he could have been if he hadn't gotten hurt. Of course if you're referring to the problem off the field (i.e., lying about the motorcycle), that's a different story ...

Losing streak ‘hurts’ Jayhawks
"Last chance for Seniors to show that they can beat NU twice in a row at Lawrence. How long has it been since a class at KU could claim this? 50's?"
I believe the answer to that would be two years. KU beat NU at home in 2005 and 2007. Now how long it's been since KU has won THREE in a row at home against NU I can't answer ...

Phoenix prep signs with KU
Interesting comments, rockcjayhawk. It seems like sons of former college players and especially former NBA players are almost always solid in basketball fundamentals and solid off the court (Brady's recent lapse notwithstanding). Can anyone recall a time where a son of a former player turned out to be not very good or to have attitude problems?

"And worse yet, no KU students did a thing about it."
What exactly do you think the KU students should have done, Machawk, started a riot??? The rest of your post made sense but that was just plain idiotic.
Like minnhawk84, jhokfan and dagger, one of the first things I thought of is that this could well have been an inside job by someone at KSUck to get the team fired up. Why not, if it works? And Cheney, I agree with you about them booing the band, but is there really anyone who's surprised by that? I'm no more surprised by that than by the fact that a KSUck fan practically knocked me over when I was looking the other way and then didn't say a word as he melded into the KSUck student section. A typical classy move from Silo Tech.
