Three freshmen can play
We do have some talented freshman. Taylor reminds me so much of Chalmers when he first joined KU. Chalmers would do the same thing.....drive to the basket out of control and charge. Chalmers also learned by the end of the year to play more in control. Taylor will do the same. This kid has a very bright future. He is by far the most confident out of all the freshman.
The Morris twins are improving by the game. Did anyone else cringe when Markieff took that three at the top of the key that he made? It was one of those where you say "what the hell are you doing.....NICE SHOT!!" If one of them is not having a good night rebounding, the other one steps it up. They are a great combination to have.
Lastly, if Releford isn't playing now, he's not going to play for the year. Remember that Mario Little hasn't even stepped on the court yet. It aggrevates me to some extent that Morningstar and Reed are playing over him. Neither Reed or Morningstar are shooting well from the perimeter (though they did hit some near the end of the game last night) and that's killing the team. As I've posted in other articles before, does anyone know why Releford sits on the bench? What's his role on this team?

Kansas Hoops Notebook
OK, after reading this article now Xavier Henry is starting to piss me off. He's already picked Memphis and now he's trying to get his "rival" recruit to there too away from KU. Granted, he's got more on his list than KU, but F him.
Maybe I'm ticked because of the game we should have won last night. But it still annoys. I'm actually proud of the guys hanging in there. I feel real good about this team. The later it gets in the season, the more confident I will feel toward them. We'll be fine.
I still want to know why Releford isn't playing. I don't even care that's it's only 4 games into the season.....he's going to transfer come next year. He's too talented.

Aldrich plays big
I can't for the life of me figure out why Releford doesn't play more. He's got size and can play defense. He seems like a gifted athlete. Is he doing something wrong in practice? Is Self playing Reed and Morningstar because he feels they are more mature? It just doesn't make sense to me.
What is Self going to do when Little is healthy? I just feel it's strange that Reed and Morningstar are playing over Releford. You can't tell me that Releford wouldn't be a better rebounder.

Self treating CBE Classic as learning experience
Aldrich is 6'11" with extremely long arms. First thing he needs to remember is just his mere presence (as an intimidator) is defense alone. Just stand under the basket with your hands straight up and you will ALTER shots. Maybe it's just me being over-critical, but I notice that Cole seems to swat at balls too much when all he needs to do is play straight up. That's where the fouls come into play.
And puhleeeeeeze don't take any fouls on the perimeter. Those constitute "stupid" fouls.
I feel good about tonights game. I think you're going to see a TON of Sherron Collins, a lot more of Aldrich and Taylor and I have this feeling that Releford is going to come out tonight. I feel he's too athletic to be on the bench.
If we hit the 3 ball tonight......we win.

Confident Collins has green light to shoot
Stephen Curry is BY FAR the most important player to his team. The kid had 44 against OU and almost single-handedly beat them. If you think Collins has the green light.......Curry could shoot it from halfcourt and his coach wouldn't care. Remember, he didn't have to be back this year.
I think Collins will get the exposure necessary this year for him to REALLY think about the NBA next year. He's going to average around 17 a game and probably around 4 assists. He's a solid player when he's healthy. KU would be lost without him right now.
Does anyone know when Mario Little is coming back? What kind of impact will he bring to the team? I had high praise for him. I figured he would have ample PT.

Prep Henry won't decide until spring
I can understand the drama when deciding amongst 6 or so schools, but not 2. It's not rocket science bro, just pick one. You can't tell me that you won't get a great education at either school. You also can't tell me that you don't get along with the coaches. Why wait?
If you think waiting another 4-5 months will matter, it won't. I don't know what you're going to figure out in that amount of time that you don't know now.
Having said all of this......PLEASE COME TO KU!!!

Marcus Morris working on foul woes
This is a great article and makes me feel a little more hopeful toward Marcus about his defense. Based on what i read the other day, this kid has a LOT of work ahead of him. It seems that his head is in the right place now, and I hope he's a man of his word and works out his defensive kinks.

Sherron Collins: One-on-One
Sherron Collins is the epitomy of a team player. This kid could have been starting ahead of Robinson throughout the year, but instead became our spark off the bench. He could have got more minutes going to another school knowing what KU already had. He instead came to KU.
Think it was worth it now Sherron? Do me a favor. Show everyone what they have been missing. Take your game to another level. Lets hear the media talk about someone else besides Hansbrough and UNC.
One things for sure......It's nice to know that I will feel comfortable late in games when the ball is in your hands. If you don't score, you'll sure as hell create something for the "someone" who will.

KU basketball notebook: Self names starters
Hey Fox....
Ever heard of Micah Downs?
You're right, the likelihood of anyone transferring is small, but these kids want to be in the spotlight, and they want playing time. Someone is going to get screwed on the playing time.
The comment saying that Self is hoping for this is bullcrap, that I admit, and probably shouldn't have been said. The fact is, Cheek and/or Henry are better talents than anyone we CURRENTLY have on our roster.

KU basketball notebook: Self names starters
The only mainstays in the starting lineup are Collins and Aldrich. We all know that. I believe Tyshawn will start and Marcus as well.
The more I read, the more I feel that Teehan is going to see significant minutes this year for this team, maybe even more than Reed and Morningstar. I just find this strange and peculiar.
Granted, Bill Self would never stoop to this level and do something like this, but maybe he's trying to piss off one of his current freshman enough for them to transfer and thus bring in both Henry AND Cheek. :-)
He wouldn't, right?
