Gary Bedore’s Kansas basketball notebook
I know this a KU chat board, but I can't help but make this comment about Kentucky....
Did anyone notice that not only did Kentucky ONLY win by 10 last night, but they didn't get 1 single point from their bench. All the scoring was done by their starting 5. Is Kentucky really THAT deep? I actually think it's frightening.
I bet Orton is upset about his decision now.

Regardless of the opponent, the Morris twins looked great last night. I see two totally different players than last year. Marcus has a nose for the basket. There's something about their demeanor that's totally changed their confidence level. I love it!
Thomas Robinson showed his true colors last night. He really is an amazing rebounder. Now we just need to polish his offensive game.
I'm still not high on Tyshawn Taylor. I hope he comes out of his funk.

Center Aldrich steady
Was Tyshawn Taylor even in the game yesterday? Something has to be done with this kid. Expectations were high on him after his summer success. He hasn't shown anything the first two games of the year. We NEED him to be better.
Cole, Sherron and X are going to be fine. Xavier's shot wasn't going down last night, but that's to be expected. After all, he shot well in Lawrence a few nights ago.
I think it's underestimated how much we are missing Brady Morningstar. Not only was a he a good defender, but he made the shots that Reed is not currently making. Reed was clutch for us last year, but he's got to help put points on the board. He needs to take more shots, work harder to get open.
This is the best thing in the world to happen to KU. It's a wake up call. EVERYONE is going to give the Jayhawks (#1 team in the nation) their "A" game. We need to make sure the offense flows better. Guaranteed that Self fixes this real quick.

Markieff improving around the rim
I think I'm gonna throw up on how good this team should be in March. Where is the weak link? By March, guys like Xavier, Elijah and Thomas are all gonna be in sink with the other guys. This team is stacked and scary good.

Two of a kind
Let's be honest......Wall is a great player and he will excel in college, but as some of you guys have already said.....when has he had to face talent as good as he is? Because it sure as hell wasn't in high school.
Wall will not be able to drive the lane and put up shots like it's nothing. Not when there are guys 6'10" waiting for him. They don't have to block his shot, they just need to alter it....a little thing called intimidation. John Wall will be in for a rude awakening. Things didn't come easy for Derrick Rose.

Rejuvenated Little puts last year’s injuries behind
I want Barnes just so nobody else gets him. :-)

Unless I missed it, this is the first time I've heard Coach Self talk about red shirting ANYONE. Looks like at least one player could be red shirted this year. Any guesses on who? Releford?

Taylor might scrimmage at Late Night
Lets not forget that Tyshawn was not alone during the skirmish between the football team and basketball team. His name stands out because he broke his thumb (or whatever). There were a few other players based on what I "read."
As for Brady.....
1) He did this AFTER this skirmish among basketball and football players
2) He acted alone. Even if there were other people in the car with him, they weren't KU basketball players.
It's just completely poor judgement among all players.

Open-door policy
Honestly, who here thinks that Xavier won't start? Regardless of his experience, regardless of his immaturity and age, it's lunacy if he doesn't start and play 30 minutes a game. He will be our most versatile player. And for all we know, he will learn to defend like Brandon Rush did.
You should see huge minutes for Aldrich, Collins and X. Henry. The other two spots will move around. Granted, foul trouble changes the minutes, but all three of those guys will play a ton.
I personally think having Marcus at the 4 is awesome! The guy is versatile for that position and can take most guys his size off the dribble. He just needs to learn how to FINISH!
I do feel for Brady. God knows he deserves a second chance.....to be able to redeem himself. If Michael Vick gets a second chance, pretty much ANYONE deserves one. Lets not forget how much Brady meant to our team last year. His defensive prescence and hustle will be missed (for the first half of the season).

Apologies issued
I'm so curious to see this chick that they were fighting over (if that is indeed true). Does she look like Giselle Bunchen, Kristen Bell or Halle Berry?
Or does she look like Sloth from Goonies?
Guarantee you she's not worth fighting over either way.
As I said yesterday in a post......Tyshawn Taylor is not needed nearly as much this year with our talent level than he was last year. Frankly, the only thing that would be missed to me is his defense (which is a big deal in Bill Self's system).
Can't we all just get along!
