Venue change on tap for KU-Indiana in Honolulu

That latter title game lose to IU was a real heart breaker. A KU team fresh off a national title, not expected to be strong, road a young B. H. Born and the original Havoc press all the way to the finals. Kansas got the last shot, but fell short by a single point (a fate that would befall Wilt's 57 team as well). All things told, the difference between KU having 5 NCAA titles and 3 is a lousy 4 points.

KU commitment Marcus Garrett recaps memorable visit

Hope Garrett is right about Brown. One and dones can be great players and having guys come through and succeed in the NBA makes attracting top talent all the more easy, but it's the foundational pieces like Garrett and Graham that lead to Final Fours and National Championships more often than not. Give me a class of Garrett, Brown, Young/Sexton/(Troy)Brown, Rafus, and (eligible)Ayton and we're primed for a streak of Final Fours and hopefully a title or two.

Even as things change, it's more of the same with Big 12 expansion talk

I still think going to 16 is the thing to do. You know sooner or later, the Big10, SEC, or ACC is going to pull the trigger on getting to that number and set off yet another arms race. Why not, instead of playing catch up, be the first to the punch for once?

We've got the opportunity and more than enough quality partners. For my money go UH, BYU, Cincy, Memphis, UConn, and either Tulane or CSU. Anything less and the Big 12 will just be biding its time until the Big10, SEC, ACC, and Pac12 tear us apart for the remaining pieces. Either way, KU will be fine (since the Big10 will take us in a heartbeat), but our neighbors may not be so lucky.

KU lands commitment from 4-star Dallas guard Marcus Garrett

UConn, Oregon, and Texas may not be a murderer's row of blue bloods, but those aren't exactly mid-majors either. And Garrett will actually be he highest ranked PG (depending on how you count Frankamp) Self has signed out of HS since Josh Selby, fwiw.

I wouldn't count on Graham sticking around. He's already shown up in some draft projects for 2017 as a late first rounder, and would likely only need to see modest improvement this season to solidify that position. However, even if that projection doesn't hold, you have to consider his age. Since he delayed entry into college, he's going to be as old as most seniors, and if there's anything the NBA draft hates, it's age. He may decide that his best shot is to roll the dice, and he'd probably be right.

In fact, I hope Graham does call it a career at KU after this season: taking the best back court in the country to a national title, of course.

Love seeing Self do the work early. Great start to the class.

Sizing up what the top Big 12 expansion candidates mean for Kansas

Honestly, the 6th team doesn't make a whole lot of difference to me as long as we bring in the top candidates. CSU, UCF, and Tulane are all on equal footing as far as I'm concerned.

Sizing up what the top Big 12 expansion candidates mean for Kansas

Adding 4 is thinking too small. If Big 12 officials truly believe that the ACC, SEC, and Big 10 are looking to go to 16 teams, the way forward is clear: get there first. Add BYU, UH, Cincy, Memphis, UCONN, and UCF, then create two 8 team divisions.

WEST:

Baylor

BYU

ISU

KU

KSU

OU

OSU

TTech

EAST:

Cincy

UCONN

Memphis

TU

TCU

UH

UCF

WVU

Or maybe a North/South approach:

NORTH:

BYU

Cincy

UCONN

ISU

KU

KSU

Memphis

WVU

SOUTH:

Baylor

UH

OU

OSU

TU

TCU

TTECH

UCF

Maybe even pods of 4 teams:

1.

BYU

ISU

KU

KSU

2.

Baylor

OU

OSU

TTECH

3.

UH

TU

TCU

UCF

4.

Cincy

UCONN

Memphis

WVU

Although, I think that approach lets the Texas teams off too much in terms of travel. But either way, if we're going to bother with expansion, it's go big or go home. Minimum 4 new teams, but 6 if they have any sense.

Tom Keegan: Newman would be good get for Kansas

It's not an either or proposition. Self already likes to play two point guards, and he's played 3 in the past. Newman is big enough to guard the 3, so a Thorton/Graham/Newman backcourt could still work if needs be.
