Mangino: Loss of Talib is No. 1 problem

Colt McCoy is NOT going pro. That has already been established. Bradford might be another story....

Thrown for a loss

It kills me that people suggest that new and improved football facilities make our players soft. We were one of the worst (if not THE worst) schools in the conference as far as facilities go (trust me, I had friends who played FB here in the late 90's). Having great facilities improves players (not to mention boosts recruiting in a big way), not makes them soft. If they are "soft" it is because of their mentality and complacency after a great season last year. From what I've heard, UT has some of the best facilities in the country...does that make them soft? Let's be realistic here.

McCoy leads way

Overall, I thought our defense played well yesterday. With our offense being so non-productive, they were on the field too long and got tired. One thing I don't understand about our defensive scheme yesterday: why didn't we have one defender (a linebacker probably) who's assignment was to keep McCoy from scrambling? He's the team's leading rusher; it has to be expected that he going to run the ball A LOT! Add it to the list of things I don't understand about how Bowen calls the defensive schemes!!! And how did we not see that fake field goal coming? As I watched it on TV, I actually said out loud "Watch for the fake!" Unfortunately, it was not heard by anyone!

Not so ancient history

ku_tailg8, they changed it. Yesterday it said "11:30 a.m. today" not "11:30 a.m. Saturday."

Kansas licking wounds

"Something like that happens, all you can do is look at each other and pull together and kind of just smile, because it's one of those things like, 'Man, we really got beat today,'" junior safety Darrell Stuckey said.

Does anyone else not like the fact that our players are smiling in the locker room after getting their a**es handed to them? I'm a competitive person, and when I lose and get my butt kicked, I'm pissed off, not smiling and saying, "Well, what are ya gonna do?"!

Now that was ugly

Just because people post their honest opinions on here and offer up some criticism doesn't mean we aren't KU fans or are "fair weather" fans. When I was at KU, when we were absolutely horrible during the Terry Allen era, I went to every single home game. Rain or shine. Just because I'm frustrated with our team when they looked like they weren't giving it their best effort doesn't mean I'm not a Jayhawk fan. I always will be! This is what message boards are for...for people to post their opinions. Being realistic and/or pessimistic doesn't make you a bad fan.

Now that was ugly

"And a note to Warriner - the thing this team needs most from the offense is ball control. Get on it."

Couldn't agree more, eastcoasthawk! I've been saying it for the last two weeks....why do we stop running the ball when we've been effective in the first quarter or two? When our defense is getting used like that, we need to sustain longer drives to give them time to rest. Not to mention take some pressure off Reesing so he doesn't think he has to make all the plays. I think that's why he's made more mistakes this year compared to last year.

(Expletive) chant remains

Is anyone really surprised?

KU secondary shaken up

I completely agree! Now is not the time to try to change everyone's skill position! Not against the #1 passing team in the country. I used to question if the defensive problem was with the personnel or the Bowen's schemes, but now I'm pretty convinced it's Bowen (not that I'm too thrilled with the personnel either). That's absolutely ridiculous! I understanding looking for a way to improve and find an edge, but not to put someone in a position that they haven't played in years since the high school level.

By the way, wasn't it Powell who got burned all day (I know everyone did, but more than others)? Is he number 35?

Now that was ugly

"Then, for reasons no one could quite explain, the Jayhawks shut down. The offense stopped moving the ball. The defense stopped defending."

For reasons no one could quite explain? Really? I can explain it. Granted, I only watched the first half last night because I worked all day (and I don't know if I can bring myself to watch the 2nd half), but I have an idea. First of all, for the second game in a row, Sharp is having a great game on the ground, and we completely went away from that. Yes, once you get down by multiple touchdowns, you need to air it out more, but this was when were still tied at 14 or down 21-14. I really don't understand this. No wonder Reesing feels like he has to do everything, which is becoming a problem.

And the defense stopped defending? When did they start? Apparently I missed that. We got burned on the 2nd play of the game!! And it continued all day. I really don't get what is wrong with this secondary. Are they that slow? They give a 10 yard cushion and still get burned. And the safeties were so concerned with Crabtree that they leaned towards him, and then our DBs who got burned had no safety help. I really don't know if it's the scheme or the personnel or what, but something needs to be fixed on this defense and FAST! Or we won't win another game. I'm usually not this cynical, but that game was embarrassing.
