It's okay we didn't get Randle. Every year uk gets the best recruiting class. How many NC has it got them? The only reason they won it last year was Anthony Davis was a once in awhile talent on defense and had guard skills to match. I doubt Randle has the defensive impact of Davis. He had 2 choices. Play in front of his family with us playing multiple Texas teams or go play in the dribble drive offense that uk does. Kids love to play offense much more than D. Plus calipari has a good record of one year guys going high in the draft because he plays them without making them earn their mins through strong D. We are good, Perry has close to the same moves with a better outside J.
ugh, what a frustrating last few games. But here's the positive. K-State on monday is a better match up for our team than the past few teams. We CANNOT handle teams with bigs who can stretch it out from 15 plus feet because of Withey's limitations. The Cats don't have that with Henrequez and Gibson who have to shoot within 5 feet of the goal. Better chance for us to win. I though we came out flat against TCU, definately could tell we didn't respect them and expected to just scare them into playing terrible. As for what I see by us I don't care for. NO hustle for loose balls. Perry dove on one and I think maybe KY did also, but from anyone else I don't see ANY attempt to do dirty work. Mclemore has been exposed for the limited skill set he has, jump shot and dunks. You take those away, dude wouldn't even be sniffing top 5 pick in the draft. And his hustle is non exsistent, not sure why. EJ, wow, i have no idea what to say about him. I am almost positive his knee is wrong, evidence by how much quicker and explosive his video looks in the tournament last yr. Perry Ellis has not developed at all. Can't make a shot with contact. He does try, I'll give him that, but in order for us to improve at this time of year (which every other team is doing whilst we regress) we needed him most of all to start showing something. Our boys need to do the simple little things. Passing is atrocious, we constantly throw a pass to a man who is being played in the passing lane. fake the darn pass and back-door them, we haven't done any backdoors this calendar year I swear!! And for the love of my sanity, practice shooting short shots. Jamari airballs a 5 foot shot. AND IT WAS SHORT NOT LONG!! EJ can't make a driving layup with any type of pressure around him, ditto for Naa. (Although Tharpe looked better today in close with his shooting)
HAHAHAHA, just read on the ESPN article that Kim English said "we gave them a gift" Turn about is fair play Kim, what do you call that up in Columbia. I always knew that dude was a dummy, but jeez dude, you got all the first half calls from the ref to build your lead and then got outplayed when it was called straight up.
Problem is he won't become what he could be. Texas isn't exactly know for improving it's players, period. They may get a Kevin Durant, Lamarcus Aldridge, or somebody, but they don't get the most out of those players or make them improve. We take the borderline recruit and make him into an NBA caliber player. Sorry Mr Popawhatever, you better get your degree at Texas, cause you surely will not become the player you could have while coming here. Not mad he didn't come, just the facts.
Correct me if I am wrong, hasn't bill snyder lived and died by the junior college recruit? So Keegs is saying that he should be praised for what development all the non qualifying football talent in the juco system brings him? Sure Darren Sproles, umm, he's what a non starting running back in the nfl and your proud of that? Every year an out of conference schedule that is almost always the weakest in america so u can claim enough wins to make bowl games every year, your really proud of that? Can we please stop the in-fighting of this great state of Kansas and stop gloating on another schools sports website, that actually cares enough about its fans to actually have one to post on. Seriously, football is way better than basketball when the ncaa tournament is considered the best sporting event every year? Jesus, no wonder everyone thinks KState is full of dummies, its called reality, look into it.
Manginorh00lz, what the heck did the great Mark Mangino do in his first 2 yrs coaching the Terry Allen squad he inherited before getting his own players in there as seniors? UMM, he lost, just as bad as TG is now. Chill out, learn some patience.
Look, Mangino didn't do anything during his time here. TODD REESING did it all in his time here. You take TODD away, we don't do diddly squat in the Mangino era, period. One of our biggest problems I saw yesterday was the inability of the WR's to make a play. The interception in the end zone bouncing off the DB's leg to his buddy, the WR had the ball hit him in the hands. Long pass to Pick down the sidelines, hit him in the hands. Yes the defenders were in there with their hands on them and it would have been a tough catch. The point is, big time players make those catches. Just like the Tech receiver catching the ball in the end zone after it getting swatted away. We just have to make the tough plays, not just the wide open easy ones to be in this game.
Somebody help me out here. Is this Shealy's first year on the job coaching the defense? I remember all the criticism Chuck Long got last yr in his first yr trying to figure out what talent we had and the best way to use it. Yes, it's a young and fairly inexperienced defense, as well as a co-ordinator unless this is his second year. I believe there will be improvement, we will get better with these screens as both the coaches and young players see more film and coach on how you handle those problems. Relax a little, like some have said, it's just the second game of the year, we are not in big 12 play yet. We will have a better chance to win games than last year, there is improvement throughout the team. It takes time to get better with young guys.
Scatter, mikey is talking about developing big men. Derrick Williams is a tweener small forward in the NBA level, big difference. Your right, he's developed but I bet it's more from his work ethic blossoming than anything Sean Miller did, remember he was the leading freshman scorer in the pac 10, so it's not much of a project build or surprise that he was so good as a sophomore.
Wibur, maybe Selby wasn't amazing this yr, but i saw plenty of promise before the foot injury. Can't remember the exact game, but one play Selby makes a shot at one end, while running back on the D side, he put on a sudden burst to catch his man, put his hand up and deflected a pass out of bounds that surely would have led to a fast break lay up. That's the potential that had people signing his praises. Remember, hurting your foot in basketball is the worst injury you can have, especially if you rely on speed in your game like Josh does.
