Gary Bedore's KU basketball notebook

If the NCAA wants to hold a basketball game in such a massive location in order to draw more fans and make more money, I can't say I have a problem with it. But what I do have a problem with is the lack of preparation.
Nobody seems to know how this setup is going to work, yet they decide to try it out in the third round of the tournament? I can't believe they wouldn't play a game or games with this setup earlier in the year to see if the elevated court works, etc. Or did they do that and I'm just not informed?

Sorrentino: Texas floor general resembles NBA MVP

"who gives a rats arse, this is a KU sports page"

goldlighting obviously missed out on the "Big 12 Spotlight" headline. Get a grip, people. If you're only interested in reading about KU, why'd you click on the story in the first place?

I'd argue that Augustin is the best (or maybe the most valuable) PG in the country. Who else can score, defend, and assist the way he does?

The Greene Room Live: Day two in Omaha

Greene, what's the percentage of fans look like during the K-State game? A lot of KU fans/no KU fans?

The Greene Room Live: Day one in Omaha

I remember a friend telling me that "Omaha" was about a gig in the city that Counting Crows had to cancel last second. Something about it being an apology to the fans.

As for the basketball, I'm guilty of saying "I'm not worried about the first round" all season and every day of the year since Bucknell. Just like this time last year, I'm suddenly a little frantic. I'm not sure how much sleep I'll get tonight. Hopefully the team is a little more composed than its fans.

KU basketball notebook

Even if he was upset by the players standing around, not protecting the ball, you know Self disagreed with Henry going after it. That's sort of an unwritten rule of basketball. But his entire career, Bill's done his business without running his mouth, and his players reflect that. Kudos to a coach doing his job in a respectable way.

The Greene Room Live: KU-Texas Tech

Another article from today mentioned the "Wrath of Kaun" spoof video. I've seen it once or twice, and it's absolutely great. Any idea what the athletics department does with those videos, or if they can be viewed anywhere? It seems like someone could pull in quite a few web hits by hosting all the self-made videos that show up on the videoboard on a Web site or blog...
Any leads on this, Greene?

Sorrentino: Benching Walker right call

As fans (and media), our attention spans and memories are getting shorter and shorter. Two weeks ago, K-State was tied for the Big 12 lead and Frank Martin was - let's be honest - the hands-down selection for Big 12 coach of the year.
State loses a couple of games and there's no way, not ever, ever EVER that Martin could EVER hack it in the Big 12? Get real.
This is still a wildly talented team that nobody in their right mind wants to see in either the Big 12 or NCAA tournament.
They're just not as good as we thought they were a few weeks ago (sound familiar?) and they're not as bad as their fans are fearing they are now (again, familiar?).

As far as the new content, I like it. I could go for a little more depth and some stories about other Big 12 schools, but I'm enjoying it. If you don't like it, don't click it.

Sorrentino: Beasley embraces pressure

Is Sorrentino another Sports Ilustrated curse? "Beasley embraces pressure", huh? Keep 'em coming. I hope you plan another one of these on March 1.

Self on OSU: 'It's not going to happen'

I don't think there's any way Bill's leaving, but those relying on "program prestige" as their argument for why it couldn't happen are putting too much blind faith in that. We're talking about a person's commitment to a program, not the prestige of said program.
Should he leave? Absolutely not.
Will he leave? Most definitely not.
Could he leave? Yeah.
