Big 12 football notebook
Of course Texas is in the top 50 on defense. They didn't have to play K-State this year.

K.C. where money is
Sorry to the above commenters but I agree with most of what Mayer's statements. I waited at the turnpike exit. I waited on I-70 for over an hour. I had to park North of Kaufman Stadium despite having "preferred" KU parking. I waited over 30 minutes to clear security. I missed the kickoff despite allowing an extra 2 hours for what should have been tailgating. My wife was hit in the head with a football by some Mizzou drunks hard enough to leave a lump that was still there the next day--of course no security to handle the situation. I missed the second half kick because I tried to use the restroom at halftime. I was able to get a nice cold beer in the stadium to go with an equally cold barbeque sandwich since I missed the tailgate. And lastly I got to dodge broken glass in the parking lot while leaving Arrowhead.
I can stay at home, save driving 200 miles each way, watch on TV with KU fans, have a beer and some some great food. Hmmm. It's a pretty easy decision for me.

Mangino: Loss of Talib is No. 1 problem
I'm firmly in the "let's move Quigley to linebacker" camp at this point.

Briscoe sits atop Keegan Ratings
Disagree with the Rivera rating. His poor choice of angles led to one long TD run for the Corn, and his name didn't get called nearly enough.
And many of Stuckey's 12 tackles saved much longer gains or touchdowns. Stuckey having 12 tackles means that NO linebackers should have been given a passing rating yesterday.

Sky Falling in Manhattan? (Going Deep)
In other news, Brittney Spears has a troubled personal life.

Dugan Arnett's KU football notebook
Anybody who doesn't believe an athlete is frustrated when they don't get to play . . . Well, I've got a bridge to sell you. Of course Sharp's smart enough to say the right things to reporters in the locker room. He isn't stupid. He is a great kid and a great KU story from Bennington/Salina. But he IS frustrated by his lack of carries, as are Quigley and Crawford.
For Arnett to make a story of this is to admit that this reporter has no concept of what it is to be an elite athlete. Pretty sad.

Big daddy
Before I get too warm and fuzzy over this story I'd like a little more info about the children's financial situation. The article says "no more reckless spending", but what does that mean. I'm pleased to see that he is taking the time to develop a relationship with his child, but most college guys with children are working a couple of jobs to pay their child support as well as pitching in on child rearing.

Looking out for No. 1
Sharp had a long TD catch in which he our ran Steve Octavian from NU (a.k.a., Bill Brasky) down the west sideline. He also broke a fairly long TD against KSU last season--it could have gone for 300 yards but he was only about 25 yards out.
And, so far, I wouldn't call Sharp all that shifty. He was very shifty in HS, but so far at KU he is more of a fast, tough runner, not a guy who is going to juke someone out of their jock. On the long TD against KSU, he hit the hole and broke an arm tackle before breaking into the open and outrunning the pursuit.
And remember how much experience counts with the offense. I don't remember Cornish doing anything as freshman or sophomore, and BMac didn't do as much as Sharp early in his career. If Jake improves anything like those two he will be one of my all time favorites.
OK, I'm biased, being from Salina. But you all gotta admit, Jake is a good kid, a good student and a good football player. And he is great for KU football.

Summer recruiting heats up for Self
It's not enough that our recruits are Christians. They have to be the RIGHT KIND of Christians. If they are not born again, pro Phil Kline, Christians, they really aren't Christians at all are they? After all, we don't want any Presbyterians (too liberal), Catholics (don't read the Bible enough) or any of the other branches of Christianity that believe in dancing, drinking alcohol or other sorts of sin.
To be sure, lets list their specific religious preference and their political party as well.

Jayhawk's brother arrested
Stewart's brother has been here for a while. I saw him with his brother just after the surgery and that was over a month ago.
