Mr. Big Shot: Naadir Tharpe’s field goal puts KU on top

I'm a pretty modest guy. But even more than that, I'm an honest hombre as well. So trust me when I tell you that I have believed in Tharpe since I heard that he was coming to KU (I recall being one of the few when it was announced).

Do I think he's going to hit the game-winner every game? Nope.

Do I think he's capable of hitting more game-winners, this season, even? Of course I do! This is not the first time he's stepped up at the end of a game for KU this year (recall the clutch free throws he hit at the end of the game against KSU in Manhattan).

Notebook: Bill Self fired up during big win; Rio Adams 'frustrated'

Honestly, the twitter thing isn't that big of a deal. Remember when Tyshawn blasted Bill Self/KU on his facebook? Ty ended up being one of the best PG's Bill Self ever brought to KU. Rio will be fine once he gets his head right.

Opinion: Seniors Travis Releford, Jeff Withey huge for Kansas

This article's title is the understatement of the year. Holy crap, Releford and Withey were everywhere last night drawing fouls, hitting free throws, making defensive stops, hitting big shots, etc. Those two in particular deserve a lot of credit for this win.

Rock Chalk!

Rio: See the forest, not the trees, young man.

Look at where Naadir Tharpe was last year: He barely played at all behind Tyshawn and Elijah. He turned the ball over all the time. Almost every time he got yanked, Self was red-faced and frustrated with him.

Contrast that with this year: Naadir is getting a ton of minutes and is contributing big time. He bided his time and has officially "arrived."

Next year, Naadir will be the starter and you, Rio, will be the backup PG. Just make it through one more summer and your time will come! Think of it this way: It's one year of mop-up minutes in exchange for three years of ample opportunity to contribute big time to one of the best schools in the country. Stick with it, Rio!

Mr. Big Shot: Naadir Tharpe’s field goal puts KU on top

Naadir is cold as the weather outside! He's got ice in his veins. That play at the end of the game was so clutch. And the look on his face in that pic above is priceless: "It's weird to not be in trouble right now, Coach!" I'm a huge fan of Tharpe and have been since he came to KU, but even I didn't expect him to be contributing so greatly this season. Naadir is going to do some great things at Kansas.

And the sky is the limit if he can shoot the ball with a little more accuracy (and stop throwing up random three-point shots before an offensive play is run...stop doing that! haha).

Elijah Johnson reclaiming role as Jayhawks' driving force

Size is no problem for Tharpe. Did you watch the first half he had against McGruder? Also, he goes up against 6'4" Elijah Johnson every day in practice. Size doesn't appear to be an issue for him at all.

Bill Self: Naadir Tharpe solid on ‘D

Hit the nail on the head!

Opinion: Naadir Tharpe big reason nightmare stretch is over

I've been waiting for a breakout game from Naadir all year! There were a ton of doubters here on this site early this season but it's good to see everyone starting to come around. Tharpe's been a better facilitator than Elijah all along, his defense just wasn't up to par to start the season. But after watching him keep MacGruder down in the first half on Monday, it's clear that his "D" is no longer an issue. Naadir deserves any minutes he gets! He's going to be a fantastic PG at KU. I still highly doubt that Self will start Naadir over Elijah this season, but I wouldn't argue with the move if he did.

Three and OUch: Jayhawks' skid continues with road loss to Sooners

This wasn't too bad of a loss. OU hit a really high percentage of their field goals and KU didn't convert on its free throw attempts. OU controlled this game from the get-go. Time to move along to Monday.
