Trevon Duval decision coming 'soon'

I probably agree, but if Svi jumps, we could make it work with Graham, Duval, and Newman. That would be fun!

Trevon Duval decision coming 'soon'

Matt - Interesting that HCBS told you that. I'm not being down on them, but realistically, none of those four are established big men at the college level. Not one. Yes, Preston and Azibuke have all kinds of potential, Coleby showed flashes, Lightfoot was just a freshman and should improve... If those 4 are going to combine for 80 minutes on an elite team, that means that we need to be 4 for 4 in big man player development which is a tall task even by HCBS standards. We also need luck with injuries. If we are planning on using two bigs on the floor, I can't understand why we chased the transfer guard over another big man to add depth and competition. We are loaded at guard. Then again, HCBS has 623 more college BB victories than I do, so what do I really know?

Devonte' Graham's decision to return keeps expectations high for KU's backcourt

Matt-Am I correct in my scholarship count? 1-D Graham, 2-M Newman, 3-L Vick, 4-B Preston, 5-U Azibuke, 6-D Coleby, 7-M Lightfoot, 8-S Cunliffe, 9-MGarrett,10-K Lawson, 11-D Lawson, 12-Svi (assuming he comes back... He's not projected high). 13-TBD.

Obviously HCBS knows more than I do, but I'm surprised he is using that last scholarship to pursue another guard. Assuming Svi comes back, the guard spot seems set with established guys like Graham, Newman, and Svi as starters with Vick coming off the bench. In the post, it seems that we have Preston and Azibuke, and after that it's Lightfoot and Coleby. I think Preston and Azibuke have great upside, but neither is an established NCAA big man, nor is Lightfoot or Coleby. REALLY hope I'm wrong, but it seems like a stretch to assume all of those guys will hit the ground running. I still think we could attract a graduate transfer big man or a OAD-type ready to contribute immediately (Knox & Bamba are available).

An introduction to future Jayhawks Dedric and K.J. Lawson

Assuming Svi comes back, this means we have one more scholarship for this year. I hope that translates to a OAD-type big man or a graduate transfer big man. Now that Bragg is gone, there are backup post minutes in play and I think the team is one big man away from having a very complete team.

Tom Keegan: Graham return turns attention to next season, away from Elite Eight loss

I don't think he rebounds well enough. I think he could be a very good 3 next year if he improves his defense a little.

If Svi leaves, the maybe Duval-Graham-Newman combine for a 3 combo-guard offense. It worked for Miles, Boschee, and Heinrich. With that kind of talent, they could figure it out. That said, I think Svi comes back and takes the SF position with Vick as the backup guard. In that case, a great front court is already set.

Graham, Newman, Svi (hoping he too comes back), Preston, Azibuke = Top 5 team.

Experience, 3 point shooting, ability to score in a variety of ways, free throws, excellent height, athleticism, defense. This is a really complete team. I love it. Vick solidifies the guard spot off the bench, but now that Bragg transferred, we have some legitimate post minutes in play. I hope that translates into a big recruit (someone like Knox or Bamba?) or a graduate transfer (another Tariq Black).

Graham and Newman will be an excellent back court.

Breaking down Billy Preston's McDonald's All-American Game

I probably agree with Scott, but never say never! Jackson may still be the first pick of this year's draft (nbadraft.net has him number 1). A 2017-2018 lineup of Graham, Newman, Jackson, Preston, & Azibuke would be one of the great teams we have ever had.

Jay Bilas calls this Bill Self's most amazing coaching job at Kansas

I disagree and would put this at #3... The 2011-2012 team was the best HCBS coaching job. That team lost 6 of 8 starters from the previous year and still made it to the National Championship after a terrific season. I think HCBS has done an excellent job this year, but we knew this would be a good team (It was pre-ranked in the top 10!). There were some doubts that 2011-2012 could be an elite team. Same could be said with 2005-2006 when a team of inexperienced freshman replaced Simien, Miles, and Langford from the year before.
