Ranked Jayhawks pick up eighth-straight win

Kansas University’s basketball team is one of the hottest squads in the nation as it has won seven straight and 14 of its last 16 games dating back to Dec. 10. To be sure, pollsters on Monday voted the Jayhawks (17-6 overall, 8-2 Big 12) into the 22nd spot in both the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and ESPN/USA Today Poll.

In its last warm-up before a showdown with Kentucky on Saturday and Big 12 play begins next week, Kansas University easily defeated Yale 87-46 Wednesday night at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks used a 14-2 run at the end of the first half to cruise to their fifth-straight victory.

The Rock Chalk Jayhawk chant might be typical for a men’s game, but it’s picking up steam for KU’s women’s team too. The Jayhawks gave a large contigent of KU fans in Allen Fieldhouse plenty to be proud of Tuesday night, keeping their perfect record with a 70-61 victory over No. 23 Texas.

Kansas recorded its fourth straight victory Thursday night with a 73-56 win over New Orleans at Allen Fieldhouse. While Julian Wright and Jeremy Case paced the Jayhawks with 12 points a piece in Kansas’ double digit victory, KU coach Bill Self said the really nice thing about the contest was that New Orleans played hard and showed the world their perseverance after battling through Hurricane Katrina
