The Kansas University football team's 6 p.m. game against Sam Houston State on Saturday has sold out, the university announced Wednesday.
In the team's season-opening victory over Florida International Aug. 30, Kansas set a school record with 52,112 fans, topping the previous best of 51,910 against Nebraska in 2007. In two home games this season, Kansas has averaged 50,366 fans per game, which puts the team on pace to top 2007's record average of 46,784.
Saturday's game will also be broadcast on Fox College Sports.

Nice....I've been telling people for a long time that KU football is a lot more fun, and way better value, and overall gameday experience then the Chiefs. There is something about Saturday college football.

Great news! It's about time we sell out a home game BEFORE the games starts! I have a good felling about the reaction this teams has had that they mean business from now on. I was wondering when this team would wake up and have a definite mission like last year's team had! Go Hawks!

I think it is a great message to this team that the fan base is on board and supports KU Football. Years ago a non-con game following a tough loss would have kept many of the fickle away. Times are changing and fans have been embracing KU football.
Tough loss the other night, but we will learn from it and get better.
The fans want to see this team reach where it wants to go.

Way to go fans! It's good to see a sellout posted before a game following a tough loss. That's telling of how we now, collectively support our 'Hawks.

Great news, but I wouldnt go that far saying its a better game day experience than at Arrowhead. I know they are terrible, but there is nothing like a sold out Arrowhead.

Outstanding! For those who live out of town or were not able to get tickets, here is a link that shows some of the companies carrying the game and what channel Fox College Sports Central will appear on:

Selling out a non-conference game against a Championship Subdivision (I-AA) school is a nice portent for the rest of the home games at Memorial this season!

Correction....the WAS nothing like a sold out Arrowhead. When the team is that bad, it's a dreary place. Rock Chalk! let's move the track out and get the capacity up to 60,000!

are they still honoring the basketball team? If so there's your reason for selling out a noncon game against a 1-AA
GO Hawks

You all know what I think about this. This is great to see, particularly the week after a tough loss. Hope to see four more of these shortly, as all four of our home conference games need a full house for the Hawks.

I have long preferred the atmosphere of a Fall Saturday around Memorial Stadium over a Sunday at Arrowhead. I feel trapped at Arrowhead. It is hard to get in, slow to get out and the concrete tailgating has lost its appeal to me. There is just a better vibe around Lawrence then Arrowhead. The prices are better as is the company in my humble opinion. It is also the Saturday vs Sunday feel. I enjoy cheering for the Jayhawks more than the Chiefs. Just my opinion. This has nothing to do with the Chiefs currently sucking hard right now either. I've been feeling this for years.
Go Hawks!

Chiefs? Do they play football? Pathetic organization.
KU needs to get their stadium capacity to over 60,000 - minimum - and consistenly fill the place on Saturdays, if they are to ever join the major college football ranks.

They are both great stadiums on game days when the teams are playing well. Personally, I would have to go with Arrowhead during the game. That place is amazing when the team is good and the crowd is into the game.
I like Memorial and the college atmosphere (of course, it has been said that Arrowhead is like a college atmosphere). The great things about Memorial are the laid back feel of the scenery and walk to the stadium and, of course, the team on the field now that they are turning into a consistent national power.
I'll be at the game this Saturday. Should be a great time.
