A story in the April 5 Lawrence Journal-World regarding court appearances for Kansas University basketball player Brandon Rush was not entirely accurate.
At the time, it was reported that Rush was facing contempt charges for failing to pay child support.
While Rush was scheduled to appear in court, a family court commissioner had dismissed the case on April 2.
As was mentioned in the story, however, a judge had the file in his possession and the court's online records could not be updated until the judge had released the file. Additionally, because the office was locked, the court spokeswoman said she was unable to verify the information that had been posted online and on which the story was based.
It was also mentioned that Rush had an upcoming court appearance in Lawrence municipal court for failing to pay court fines. Rush, however, paid his municipal court fines March 18 and has no legal obligations to the city of Lawrence.

So rather than verify you idiots just went ahead and printed that story on the day KU played UNC. I hope you choke on that old dead crow.

Absolutely HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE reporting by this paper last Saturday. You should personally apologize to Brandon. This guy has done nothing to you or the community to be treated so underhanded.

Kudos for at least admitting you were wrong. Somehow, though, my gut tells me that LJW didn't double-check themselves and come up with htese findings. Someone else had to correct them in order issue this, I imagine.
Take care, Brandon.

someone needs to be fired at the Urinal World, this is getting out of hand
ever since keegan took over this paper has gone down hill, and over the last few months this paper has easily done more harm than good, which should lead to someone losing their job
if anything the journal world is tying too hard to get the first scoop that they are basically taking anything someone says and making it a story without merit.
unacceptable

you know, there is a pretty good journalism school right up the hill from the Journal world offices... maybe a couple of the people who worked on this story should take a little walk up there and sit in on some lectures regarding reporting and fact confirmation....

Yeah, I know all of this has already been said, but I'm appalled.
Apparently, LJW wanted to bash Rush on the day of the UNC game so badly that someone wrote an inaccurate article and did not take the time to double check the facts.
Amazing!
Did anyone at the LJW even attempt to call Brandon and get his input on the article BEFORE it was printed?? I doubt it.
Has anyone at the LJW, and I mean anyone, even considered the possibility that to be a good reporter one should double check the so-called facts of the article?
Sloppy, sloppy work. This must be embarassing for the LJW.

I don't really care about who did what and where and when. It really sucks that they did this on the day before the UNC game and came out with a revision after the season was over. They only thing I would like to see, is that paper needs to buy space in the surrounding papers and print an apology (and not bury it somewhere people can't even find it. The last time I checked, Brandon has done nothing to these people to be falsely accused of this untrue crap. If I were Brandon, I would check into a civil suite for deflamation of charactor.

As for the reporting here, very disappointing LJW. I understand mistakes are going to be made, but don't print an article on the day of (at the time) the biggest game of a guy's life that has no sustainable validity.

It is bad journalism to cover stuff up if you have a team full of thugs. It is just pure hatred or envy or greed that keeps trying to destroy these kids at all the wrong times for them and the best time for the paper.
I would never pay a dime to read this crap. Maybe the fans should start boycotting their online advertisers and the JW would stop trashing the same people that create their jobs.

As a loyal Jayhawk fan and daily visitor to this website, I demand an appology to Rush! This article is worse than the first. The LJW did not take any responsibility for its original mistake, and simply blamed the error on not being able to verify due to an office being locked. I seriously doubt if the LJW reads any of these posts, but just in case, be sure that many are very dissapointed in the hometown paper, and have lost much respect in your reporting. i don't understand why the ljw has a dislike of certain KU players. nor do i understand why they use what is supposed to be a newspaper to air their dislikes in thinly veiled attacks. read bill mayer story linked in an above post, way to attack a guy who never did anything selfish in his time at KU. so many of these writers don't know about basketball as a game and can't break down what a team's system is or what KU will try to do to defend or score on them so the writers resort to soap opera stories. when the soap opera storyline is not immediately available they search their addled brains for more imaginary (i mean creative) story lines to publish.
