The 3 non-cons, Baylor and Iowa State are our best chances. We should be better and the rest of the conference will not be quite as good but we got blown out of the water by 6 teams last season. I will be thrilled with 5 Ws!
Fortunately, the 1st of those 6 isn't on the schedule this year, nicely replaced by Rice.
That accounts for one of the 8 who voted 9 or more. Who else wants to fess us?
I said five wins. Anymore than five, would be icing on the cake. More importantly, the game against the Kitty Kats is huge. The last two years, we have been taken to the silos. I hope we can just compete---that would be a celebration in itself!
Actually, the silo was rehab from the stop behind the barn. What really hurt was both being in Lawrence and the quiet paternalism from most Wildcat fans, as if these results were in the natural order of things.
Who the hell voted for 9 wins? Look I have hope but that is pure stupidity. 5 or 6 wins should be the max but that will be a huge improvement. I will be delighted with 5 wins.
These "polls" have a lot of people that don't vote seriously. Some people think its funny to vote something ludicrous. Plus there are the trolls from other schools.
Along about 2006, Who The Hell would have said we go 12-1 the next year?
There may have been 8 or 9 so far off their rocker, but I doubt it.
3 Non-cons, Iowa St., Texas Tech & Baylor. (Will loose one of those and pick up another somewhere else.) Total = 6
Scenarios for 4,5,6,7 wins are all plausible. At least I anticipate enough close (1 or two scores) games that will garner at least marginal respect from around the conference.
I look for steady improvement through the season. That is the main reason I am impatient for a look at the schedule – we should have a better shot at mid-level conf teams in Nov than we would in Sept.
I know Baylor had close a a dream season last year and lost RG3, but the one game he missed their offense didn't slow down much if at all.
Yes they lost their top WR as well, but their backups were pretty good.
Baylor will be an upset if we beat them.
Tech on the other hand, is a must win to stay out of the Conf. cellar.
Last year, if Turner Gill had it together Kansas would have beaten both Baylor and Texas Tech. I do seem to recall that game against Baylor came down to a play in which the Baylor defender really did commit pass interference, and it wasn't called and ended the drive that could have tied the game in the final minutes.
I bet Charlie Weiss makes in-game adjustments. Turner Gill never made one once.
Six wins would be solid. Baylor's days are numbered. Their recruiting practices are going to be heavily monitored now because of their basketball excess. Just a matter of time. Iowa State will lose Rhoads and that will be that. We just have to keep on with the program and get those minimum 5 wins every year, year in, year out, keep improving the program and keep stability even if HCCW never gets above 500 for 7 or 8 years.
