We didn't know any better after 100 years and it's human nature to make the best of being stuck together. Now that Missery has broken the tie they no longer mean anything to me. Truly, they don't, as I have seen all the warts in them that I had to ignore as a conference partner. Its all I can do to stomach finishing out this series before they leave.

Also, there is very little historical importance behind KU & MU. Neither basketball team was ever involved in fighting in the Civil War. Yes Quantrill came to Lawrence, killed and burned the town down but John Brown was no sweetheart either. I fully understand the platform that JB was on and while I support that I am not sure he was far off from being a terrorist. All I am saying is that the reason fans think this rivalry has so much venom in it is because of the Civil War is a bunch of bologna. We don't like MU because their fans are dumb and MU doesn't like KU because their fans are dumb. That's really about it.

While I'm annoyed that MU left in the manner they did I think we will eventually end up playing them each year in both football and basketball. The answer is simple: money. It may take a few years for heads to cool off but CBS/ESPN/FOX/whatever will eventually attach a big enough dollar sign to these games to induce the respective ADs/presidents/board of directors to give their approval. The games will be in Arrowhead and the Sprint center, they will both sell out, and the TV viewership will be huge (well, huge by midwest standards).
Keep in mind that ADs come and go. Today's ADs are angry about the whole process but the next ones will be more objective. Money will talk eventually.

I hate Missouri as much as the next guy. They are dirty, stinky, smelly people. But there are enough good, legitimate business reasons NOT to play them to get emotional about it.
I apologize and have changed my opinion. I know, it's odd for one of the older folks who are "old and set in their ways" to change direction, but I have. I now want an annual doubleheader in the Sprint Center: Kansas vs. Texas A&M and Missouri vs. Texas. This brings so much angst and symmetry to the situation that it's too good to pass up--so close, yet so far. Okay, every third or so would probably have to be in Dallas, and then we'd revert to a regional game. For some reason, this just feels right.
I hope that last Saturday's game was the last one we ever play against them. That one's gonna' hurt a long time. Where were all these people, clamoring to keep the rivalry going, when they were talking about leaving the Big 12? Of course they still want to play. It means everything to them and next to nothing to us now that they're gone. That's because we're KU and they're mu. I hope they enjoy packing Paige Arena to play MS State or Ole Miss or Auburn.
