I'm saying 6 which is mostly based on wishful thinking but we just can't be as bad as we were last season.

We could be remarkably better than last season -- night and day -- and still come no where close to 6 wins. Much more difficult schedule. Set the expectations low, and you can be surprised. Expecting 6 wins, however, is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Watch for us to be much more competitive in games, even if we lose, this year. That truly is the benchmark for improvement. We could win fewer games this year and be considerably better than last.

Things will probably be worse, having to play all the South powers in the same year now ...

iheartkansashoops 9 years, 1 month ago

I'm hoping at least 4! I just don't want to lose to Mizzou again.

KU can be a much better team next year and still only win 3-5 games. It's a much tougher schedule (3 non-conference and all the South teams - No Colorado either....). We will still be a very young team but I'm hoping they show much more heart and can get to that 6th win.

are you kidding me. i'll lay it out for you ONE more time.

Mangino: ONE winning season out of 8

vs. Big 12 North: (19-21) Iowa State (6-2) Missouri (4-4) Kansas State (4-4) Nebraska (2-6) Colorado (3-5)

vs. Big 12 South: (4-20) Texas (0-4) Oklahoma (0-4) Texas Tech (0-4) Texas A&M (1-3) Oklahoma State (1-3) Baylor (2-2)

3 of the Big 12 South wins came in 2007, which means in the other 7 years he won 1 game (against Baylor).

Mangino failed against the Big 12 South and would have nowhere to hide this year.

thanks 613. I get so tired of seeing mangino hang-ons like the one above. Get over it. The fat man has left the building.

Are you still upset that Roy's gone ? Let it go brother.

sevenyearhawk 8 years, 8 months ago

I don't like how Coach Mangino was dismissed, but I don't think that he should be here ... I do think that Kansas Athletics and the fan base deserves a lot better than Turner, though.

If KU can win 2 out three of their non conf. games and beat ksu and mizwho I'll be more than happy...beating ISU and Baylor would get KU bowl eligible, which would be above most expectations.

Win all three non conf. games, beat ksu and mizwho, and then get a win against ISU and another conference opponent and things will look very, very good.

Mangino_Maniac 8 years, 10 months ago

Or do all that you listed above and pull an upset off against one of the big 'Texas Three' or OU and that will get heads turning!

What can I say... I'm an optimist.

squawkhawk 8 years, 8 months ago

Uh, let's see, if I recall KSU beat KU by like 150 points last year and they are predicted to be as good if not better than last year. How is it KU fans always seem to think that beating KSU is a given?

New coach, new players, new team.

When I visualize excellence I see 8 wins.

When I visualize reality, I'm thinkin' 4 or 5.

Viggo3003 8 years, 6 months ago

When you lay down the crack pipe you'll see 2 or 3.

doctorWho 8 years, 10 months ago

I said 5, simply because it seems like reasonable "growth" from last year. I'm sure we are going to be in for some surprises, hopefully more than a few are pleasant.

justinryman 8 years, 10 months ago

I went with 5 and hoping for more. Going on the second year in the system, more team speed, players in position and not changing at this point. I think the coaching staff also will have a better grasp of what they need to do to get more wins.

Roch Chalk, can't wait for August!

ChicagoJHawk 8 years, 9 months ago

Wow, you guys are some optimistic fans! Most people seem to think we'll win 4-6 games this season & 16% of people think we'll win 7-8 or more games.

We have a good quarterback this season so I expect us to be better but not by much. I really hope you guys prove me wrong though!

TonganoxieHawkfan 8 years, 8 months ago

I voted four and I don't think they will get that many, I'm hoping Gill can turn it aruond in a year or two.

KU_Alumn_2000 8 years, 7 months ago

3 wins is what I predict. 2 of them come in the non-conference against McNeese and Northern Illinois.

The other win will come from one of the old north schools (K-State, Mizzou, or Iowa St).

Just can't see getting anymore wins than that...especially against any of the south schools.

stevemize 8 years, 7 months ago

I predicted 3 wins. The schedule is tougher. Yes, we won 3 games last year but we were embarassed badly in more than a few of our losses. We could be vastly improved and still only win 3 games. I'm hoping for improvement and competitiveness.
