I begrudgingly voted for Texas, because of the words "right now".

Texas is very hot right now, but overall I think KU is better. And I wouldn't put it past Rick Barnes to coach his team to a 2nd round loss in March.

hooops 10 years, 11 months ago

2nd round losses in March are sort of a sensitive subject around here.

Chaz13 10 years, 11 months ago

too soon to bring up a 2nd round loss...

Garry Wright 10 years, 11 months ago

I voted for KU. KU was blowing TU out of the water until our tank went empty. The team was dealing with emotional stress over RTob's loss. They were up all night, that drained them physically. But emotional stress takes much more out of a person and it is much harder to recharge your tank. I'd love to see that game played again--our place or theirs. It would be a tough game, but I believe that we'd come out on top "right now." Really hoping for a rematch at the B12 tourney.

gchawk 10 years, 11 months ago

I think you're absolutely right. Not to take anything away from Texas, they are very good, I feel that we had extenuating circumstances which played a huge factor in our loss to Texas. Only a rematch will answer the question for sure, I just hope we get the opportunity to play them again this year.

Jack Morgan 10 years, 11 months ago

The TRob situation was an excuse, for sure. What excuse do we wish to use with regards to the K-State loss. In all my years as a Jayhawk fan I have never seen a KU team play as poorly. We really do need a good excuse, and I hope we can come up with one. Was it that the Morris twins didn't show up ? Did they not show up because of the purple people eaters ? A struggle for us all for sure !! ... Maybe we can blame Rick Barnes failures in the past for our feeling that we will win the Big Twelve Championship in a walk anyway and that we don't need to exert ourselves as we will win it all anyway. Maybe we can live with the feeling that we were intimidated and that that was our excuse. Maybe , maybe , maybe .... Where can we find a good excuse when you really need one !

Michael Potter 10 years, 11 months ago

All posts are right. I tend to fall in line with the phrase "right now". TU pit it on T A&M on a&m's homecourt. They seem to have it all. Until the Big 12 tournament.

Matt Gonzo 10 years, 11 months ago

I am not going to play the excuse card, but I think if the Texas game occurred before that emotional week....the outcome would have been different.

Both teams are quality teams and each have a good shot at securing #1 seeds for the NCAA tourney.

LAJayhawk 10 years, 11 months ago

I don't believe in excuses either, but I don't think it's really fair for anyone to compare the two teams based solely on that game. It doesn't stop the ESPN analysts from doing it (Texas is the new hype-child), but I don't think it is an accurate description of where the two teams are. Texas may be playing a little better right now, but I don't judge that off of our game with them.

Yes, we've had some struggles against weaker teams, but so has Texas (see 17 point loss to USC).

If we meet them again in the B12 tourney, I expect an excellent, hard-fought game. And I believe we emerge victorious.

JayDocMD 10 years, 11 months ago

I also begrudgingly voted for TX, but agree that the team's emotional/physical fatigue was a major factor in the 2nd half implosion. 10 games on a neutral court, I think we split 5 games apiece.

Two thoughts:

  1. We have NO margin in conference play. I don't think Texas will lose more than one of their remaining games:
Texas Tech, at OU, Baylor, OK St, at Nebraska, Iowa St, at Colorado, Kansas State, and at Baylor.

They might have an off night and lose one of the Baylor games, or at CU or at NU. I think we have to run the table and hope they get caught by at least one team to share the title. Otherwise, the home win streak won't be the only streak they stop.

  1. I'm worried about Texas taking our 1 seed away in the Southwest (San Antonio) and sending us out west as the 1 seed (Anaheim?) I do have an ulterior motive since I have already have my Sweet 16 tickets for SA, but I won't be the only one unable to travel that far for the games.

Texas won the Big XII last night. Game over.

Laura Hrabak 10 years, 11 months ago

Are you retarted? They still have to go to Colorado and Nebraska? Plus they will cool down at some point every team does.....

Scott Lippoldt 10 years, 11 months ago

Retarted--does that mean he got seconds with pop tarts at breakfast? Please don't use that word (spelled incorrectly or not). I am a teacher, and I find it offensive.

KU_alum_2001 10 years, 11 months ago

I'm sorry you find the word "retarded" offensive but welcome to either a) freedom of speech, or b) a world of humor where everything doesn't have to be censored. I understand you find it offensive but you ignore it and move on. This is a public forum for personal, biased posts and opinions. If you don't want to be offended, don't read it.

Ed Brown 10 years, 11 months ago

+1...Jaybate where are you?

Although I agree with the teacher that if the only vocabulary you have is to use derogatory labels that were derived as a slam to people with disabilities you probably need a bit more education or at least a thesaurus to allow you to express yourself in a manner that conveys your messsage but not at the expense of those that cannot defend themselves. The first ammendment was intended to allow each of us to express our opinions but it does not give carte blanche authority to berate others. A good case in point is the "N" word. Nowhere does the U.S. Constitution explicity say you are protected if you choose this word to express yourself. If you don't believe me I could send you to specific neighborhoods and let you use that word and then invoke "Freedom of Speech" to "protect" you. :)

Texas is actually playing as a team right now, maybe for the first time in Barnes 13 years there. But when the limelight shines on them, they will all want to hog it and go back to thier individual ways that any Barnes coached team does.

As for KU, I think they are a solid top 5 team right now. They could be the best, and KState got a look at that. They just need to continue that on the road this week and onto Monday night aginst Mizery.

Unfortunately, Thomas's mom past away, but I think it bonded this team into a very solid team, family and the start of the making of a Champion.

fansincewilt 10 years, 11 months ago

Right now, Texas has to be considered the premier team in the country. I think they would blow out Ohio State if they played right away. I just hope they cool down and Kansas gets to clicking with Selby. I think the only team in America that could beat Texas is Kansas. Texas is peaking. Kansas has not yet peaked.

KGphoto 10 years, 11 months ago

KU was making Texas look bad until they hit the wall. The allnighter caught up with them in the second half and they just couldn't recover. Not to mention the fact that TRob was obviously out of sync. He didn't get back in until several minutes into the K-State game.

If the twins and TRob play anything like they did for the 2nd half against K-State, KU would roll Texas. Right Now.

Drew Bender 10 years, 11 months ago

Texas is the hottest team in the country right now. They came into a rocking AFH and blew us away in the second half by over 20. I know people will use the excuse that the team hit a brick wall after staying up all night but I seriously think Texas is that good. People say "well look at the USC loss" but that was just one game. They also have losses to Pitt and UCONN by a combined 3 points. Im as big of a KU fan as there is but I am also an honest person that will call it like I see it. Texas is HOT right now. They will cool down eventually and hopefully KU can have a rematch with them in the BIG XII tourney and come away with the win

brcook99 10 years, 11 months ago

The one night we lose, we hit a wall becaues one of our players' parents dies the night before. That is the ONLY reason Texas beat us. We still have an overall better efficiency ranking and we have a better SOS.

And I agree with the point that Texas is peaking now, KU hasn't reached its potential yet.

Thoughts and prayers with you T-Rob!

KU_FanSince75 10 years, 11 months ago

Yep, I reluctantly voted for Texas; however, KU has not peaked yet and the history of Texas in the Big Dance hasn't been very good. The same thing (second round loss) could happen to us but again, the Jayhawks haven't reached their ceiling yet. It will make for a (hopefully) fun run in March. I am going to sit back and "enjoy the ride!"

dchon 10 years, 11 months ago

We were lucky on a couple of our victories and Texas was unlucky on a couple of their losses, so one could argue a draw, but I would have to give it to Texas just because it seems like Texas just collected a Mario Star, evident by steam rolling their recent ranked opponents. I would rather have us collect our Mario Star come March!

DerekR25 10 years, 11 months ago

I have to believe the players themselves on this one. Erin Andrews mentioned Saturday that the players feel Texas got lucky in that they got to play us at the worst possible time imaginable.

My gut tells me, if/when we play Texas again, we kick their butt up and down the court.

Jeffery Barrett 10 years, 11 months ago

I agree with everything Erin Andrews says........wait, what? What was I saying? Oh yeah, Its all about peaking in basketball. The '08 'Hawks peaked in the last few seconds of regulation in the NC game. This '11 team is every bit as good the '08 team up until "The Shot". Every year except '08, the 'Hawks have peaked too early - sometimes WAY too early. IMO, this team has not peaked yet. That has me very excited! Or maybe it's just Erin Andrews.......

Kyle Neuer 10 years, 11 months ago

I voted for TX("right now"), but I'm looking forward to a rematch.

Chris Shaw 10 years, 11 months ago

Texas is unstoppable and Kansas will never have a chance. I voted for Texas and deservedly so!

Note: I did vote for Texas because I do think they are better "Right Now". As Jaybate says, part of my post is fiction so there was, I guess, some malice intended.

Greg Lux 10 years, 11 months ago

Differences of opinion make for good financial arrangements. ( If I only had money ). I love the comment " Kansas will never have a chance ". You obviously need a reality check. Every team has a chance on a given night. If you don't understand that by now you are not very old. Or your way too old ( lol ). Texas is good but very beatable and if KU had not run emotionally out of gas in the second half of the TX game they would be undefeated instead of TX right now. Just wait and see kushaw reality check is coming your way soon.

Kansas is better. they are better "right now", they were better yesterday, they will be better tomorrow. they were better ten years ago, they will be better ten years from now. Remember when Texas was OOOOOO so good last year and everyone and they dog was on the "texas is the best" bandwagon? Rick Barnes left a big message in their locker room. "you can be a peacock today, and a feather duster tomorrow". And the downhill slide began. Same s### just a different year for the longhorns. No way they run through the big 12 16-0. NO WAY!!

Scott Lippoldt 10 years, 11 months ago

I don't know, RCJ--looking at Texas' remaining schedule, where do you see the loss(es) coming from? I think KU will be the better team come March, as we are just beginning to gel. We still have tough games against rivals (2 with Mizzou) along with playing at Nebraska. I'm more worried about us getting to 15-1 than Texas ending up 16-0. If that ends up the outcome, we can be proud of a 2nd place finish, especially considering the circumstances leading to the one loss.

Laura Hrabak 10 years, 11 months ago

Kansas is getting better each week. Texas is peeking a little early and I think if we are not spent on the night of the Texas game we don't crumble after the first 12 minutes or so! Kansas is the better team!

GabrielMichael 10 years, 11 months ago

I voted for Texas because I want our guys to breathing-fire, ticked-off when they play them in the Big 12 tourney!

ParisHawk 10 years, 11 months ago

<p> "calculates" that right now Texas is just slightly better. However, Texas has a 38.4% chance of going 16-0 in the conference, and KU has a 25% chance of going 15-1. Their away games are just easier than ours.

Again according to Ken, on our remaining schedule the second-toughest road game is Saturday and the toughest home game is Monday. Need some back-to-back toughness!

Joe Baker 10 years, 11 months ago

I can be very objective and you would be a bball fool if you didn't think ut was playing well. However, right now has nothing to do with future performance. They are peaking way too early and will fizzle like always. Many are saying this team is Barnes' best team? This is insane! His best team was with Durant and he failed to coach that team to a NC. This team is nothing like Durant's team. I've said again and again, Barnes will always have good players but no NC!!! Beating KU is as close ut will ever get a NC, LOL!

This media love affair with Barnes and ut bball is ridiculous. They will never have my full respect until they win a NC. The "experts" will say, "This may be the year!" They've been saying that about Barnes for the last 6-8 yrs. He should have at least one already and Durant was his chance.

Durant James Pittman Aldridge Augustine Abrams

Jeffery Barrett 10 years, 11 months ago

Lamarcus Aldridge wasn't on that team......He left in '06. And Pittman (D-league) & James were we all saw last season.

Greg Lux 10 years, 11 months ago

After the NU game there is NO doubt that KU is different team then the one that played NU and TX at AFH this year. We are many times better at ball movement and our defense has improved greatly ( we still need to work on dribble penetration ). Then take the fact that two of our best players are healing ( Josh and Tyrel ) not counting Travis. We are a force to be dealt with from now on out. Our ball movement is so vastly improved. It is key to the vast improvement in our shooting %, for sure.

We stomped em the first half. They stomped us the second half. We werent hitting shots, they were shooting lights out including a 28 foot desperation backboard shot. S--- happens

Robert Lofthouse 10 years, 11 months ago

the rematch promises to be exciting!!! it will be the game of the tournament, eh?

jcourt 10 years, 11 months ago

We have one month to get everyone healthy and playing at the top of their game. Right now Texas deserves to be No 1. Put the target on them while we mend but keep winning. We have got to get better at passing under pressure, and defending the three. You know the commitee will bracket us with a senior ladden, three point making team with a point guard who will beat u off the dribble. So lets get ready.
