Spodcasters Tom Keegan and Matt Tait (along with Gary Bedore) check in with Rivals.com recruiting analyst Shay Wildeboor to get the latest on KU's top targets in the Class of 2015.

Didn't really learn anything new except no announcements until April. I'm still really hopeful we land, at least, Zimmerman and Newman. If we were able to add Brown as well, I think next year's team would be a contender without a doubt.
Nothing new??? Come on. I wasn't aware that anyone knew what all went on inside Shay's head! The guy did great and knows his stuff. Should be an interesting several weeks.
For those of us who don't subscribe to or frequent recruiting websites, this was a nice summary of info I've seen alluded to by other fans. It was also interesting to hear from someone with first-hand perspective, what most of us assumed to be true, i.e. how "business-like" the recruiting process is for the top talents.
He was weak. His first response to every questions was a sigh as he tried to figure out what he was going to say. He is a nice guy and all but he did not add much to the discussion.
@Tyson: when players' decisions haven't been made one should not be surprised to hear that no announcements have been forthcoming. All analysis is speculation and nothing more can be revealed short of the player declaring a school. The point is, some speculation is informed while not conclusive. Some followers of recruiting (and I include myself in this) like to hear what others' inklings are based on information they have perceived or been shown. No harm in that.
I heard nothing on the recruiting that I didn't already know. Was hoping I'd learn something new about at least one of these kids. Appreciate the effort and the guest though.
I want Zimmerman over any other recruit we are after. We need his size and length to help us in the paint. Right now as it stands, if we land a guard and a wing..... how does that help us for next year? If Zimmerman isn't a KU signee, then we should be after Diallo. Though he is not super tall, his defense and shot blocking are his strong points. We have got to get better defensively in the post. I'm sure coach Self is aware and looking to address this, but a team full of wings and guards is what we already have.
What if we end up getting Maker instead of Zimmerman? I don't know enough about Maker to answer that. What do you think?
Maker is more of a Durant type player (from a size/position standpoint, not as skilled offensively obviously) so while he would be a great addition, he's not really the type of 7' guy that would be "ideal" for our needs, but certainly better than another 6'8 guy.
Oh my goodness I couldnt disagree more about Maker's not having offensive tools. In fact, his game is more well-rounded than was Durant's at the same age (remember that Maker has reclassified). Thon plays inside and out, has a three-point shot and is very fluid in the paint area. Defensively he is a rim-protecting machine. He handles the ball like a small forward and is disciplined beyond what most fans would expect. If I had my choice of anyone, it'd be Maker. Over Zimmerman...by all means and yes indeed. Respectfully submitted...
I Like Maker but he has no back to the basket offense. Wow you are off, "more rounded than Durants at the same age" LOL. The same Durant that Manning said was the best player to ever play on our floor? That guy? Come back to Earth Joe. Dial it back a little. Maker is a great player but relax on the Hypebole.
Like UK, we're not going to get everyone we want. Having said this, I'd like about 2-3:
Zimmerman/Diallo/Maker - Either one
Ingram/Brown - We're not landing both as SFs...
So, if I could pick and they would come, first option would be:
Zimmerman, Newman, Brown
Diallo, Newman, Brown
Maker, Newman, Ingram
I'd sub Ingram for Brown in 1-2 options.
Who is my common denominator? NEWMAN...The kid is a playmaker deluxe. He's cocky good and we need some attitude on this team. We need a vocal leader that can back his talk.
If we don't get a big, I'd like Newman, Brown and/or Ingram. I do believe we land 1 of the three bigs.
Diallo/Newman would be a nice duo. But I think because of Bragg, Ingram is a huge KU lean. I'd take Maker/Ingram if Selden stays.
I think for some dumb reason, Diallo seems to be an ISU lean.
I think Zimmerman and Newman are waiting for UK's 4-8 top recruits to declare. I've said it in other posts, they have 4 committed. They will like loose all 4 of their bigs in the draft. They are all top 10-12 picks. Many think Zimmerman is a strong UNLV lean. Maker's eligibility issues may either keep him in 2016 or sends him to Europe.
So I haven't heard a word from Zimmerman and I think KU misses with Zimmerman. I think his choices are UNLV, UK, and KU.
Id choose Maker, Zimmerman, and Newman. In that order.
We need Zimmerman. I am amazed that these recruits have not taken their visits.
Been saying it all along that I want Maker/Zimmerman(with a lean here because he won't have potential eligibility issues) and I want Newman. We get those two along with Bragg, and I will be excited about next year's class. I may actually do cartwheels.
from several things I have seen and read, I don't think there is much of a chance of Zimmerman OR Newman of course could be wrong and hopefully I am but every thing I'm hearing is Kentucky pretty much leading the way for Newman and Zimmerman is going to end up staying close to home either at Arizona or heard more even stay right at UNLV, actually been hearing UNLV ALOT. no matter where Zimmerman goes he will not sign a NLI which is something different but you know you may start to see more and more of that kind of leaves the door open for the player if at the last minute the coach ups and leaves, if the kid has signed then he is being punished wanted to play for that coach then that coach moves but the player is already locked in to that school who knows just sayin. Think like other poster saying I think our best shot is probably Maker & Ingram I have heard Ingram really likes Ku the thing being the big if is if he leaves the state have heard some about Duke but think our chances are still good & have heard that maker really likes Ku but the only problem there is the clearinghouse could even be a partial qualifier and if that is the case he will not come guaranteed, end up going over seas but however the end I know we will be fine GO HAWKS
I saw Maker's first mixtape from the Lucas camp when he was in the 7th grade and I've been sending positive vibrations out into the universe ever since. i really hope the Sudanese community (Not to mention the soon-to-be-released movie based in KC about them) influences Maker to come here. And in a few years, I hope Chris Bol decides to come to KU.
