The guys discuss what has gone wrong for the Jayhawks, who still tote a 24-3 overall record into Wednesday's game at Iowa State, which Kansas can hardly afford to overlook in anticipation of Saturday's rematch with reeling Kansas State. Offering their most educated guesses at cures are Ryan Greene, D.J. Wheter, Kevin Romary and Tom Keegan.

Darrell Arthur is indeed a black hole:
During the minutes he's been on the floor, Arthur has taken 31 percent of KU's shots.
Here are the other players' figures (totals will add up to over 100%)
Rush: 25 percent
Collins: 22 percent
Jackson: 20 percent
Chalmers: 18 percent
Kaun: 17 percent
Aldrich: 17 percent
Stewart: 13 percent
Robinson: 12 percent
Since five guys play at once, the average shot-taking volume should be about 20 percent. Maybe Arthur should kick it out to Chalmers (45 percent 3fg) a little more often.

as for everyone reciting this team's record of 24-3.
I have this to say...it's not so much about how this team has failed but more what they haven't done. So far, they've achieved very little. They haven't beaten a top 25 team, at all, not even at home! And they haven't beaten a big 12 team with a winning conference record.
So they have a lot to prove before we talk about final four, nat'l championships.
By the way, can anyone answer this question about Self's era at KU: What's Self's most signature* win at KU?
*a game that is late in the season with big implications against an equally as good or better team.
All I can come up with is Texas in the Big 12 championship game two years ago.
Note: Florida, in November, doesn't count.
Now.....turn this question on Roy Williams in his first four-five years. Wow! there's so many, it's hard to think of them all....
hmm...1991 Indiana, arkansas, north carolina....
This really gives some perspective, doesn't it?
Has Bill Self even topped an Orange Bowl victory??

86finalfour - why doesn't a win against Flordia count? they were the number 1 team in the country. undefeated, and won the championship the year before, and then went on to win it again that year. Seems to me like that was a pretty good win on a neutral court.
If we didn't run into a hot UCLA team playing great in their backyard we could have challenged them again.

Sherron can't "be that guy" until he plays under control. I'm tired of him jumping in the air before making a decision whether to pass or shoot. He's got an amazing set of wheels too, but he needs to learn how to slow down before running out of bounds or wrecklessly running into people. He's got a heck of a lot of talent, but he doesn't use his head . . . until he learns to play smart ball and stay under control he can't be that guy. Keegan, why do you always fall in love with the mystery guy? Collins isn't exactly the red shirt mystery guy, but in football and basketball both you always call for the guy who is supposedly being robbed of opportunity because of injury or bench time after not proving himself to the coach. Stop calling for every underdog. Stop calling for every "talented" guy. Collins might be that guy next year . . . but he's not proven he can keep from blowing games for us. When he tries to take control he makes bad decisions. He was a big problem in our UCLA loss last year. I don't want a repeat of that loss because a young guy who doesn't play smart tries to take over the game.

It sounds to me like 86finalfour is living in the past. Bill Self is an amazing coach and has managed to achieve a higher winning percentage than the great Roy in the first four years. I know that Bill Self has a long time before he can be compared to Roy or Dean or Night but is doing just fine. Also, I am not sure what KU team he/she has been watching but our impressive wins against TX last year (all of them) were pretty crucial not to mention the FL game.

86finalfour-
The reason we haven't beat a top 25 team at home is because we haven't played a top 25 team at home.
And yes we have beat a top 25 team, USC.
