The explanation of the defensive delay of game was that Resby was hanging over the head of the center making him unwilling to snap the ball when the play clock ran to zero for fear of being clobbered . Resby was stemming at the time (faking the blitz between different pairs of defensive linemen to make the offense guess where the blitz was really coming from), it's perfectly legal to do so, and pretty ridiculous for a center to not think that he could take on a safety.

Basically what it boils down to is a penalty that nobody ever calls, but was called against us because the ref had money on the game.

BCS, dollar signs, that's what made the difference! lol

Oh well, the better team won anyway.

Thanks, Chip, for the detailed explanation on holding. It's always good to get some insight from someone who's been there. I feel like I understand it much better now.
