In this episode of KUSports.com editor Andy Samuelson's podcast, featuring Journal-World sports editor Tom Keegan, 6Sports director Kevin Romary, J-W sports writer Gary Bedore, and 6Sports anchor D.J. Whetter, the group talks about KU's NCAA Tourney opener against Bradley and whether the Jayhawks can make it out of the first weekend. The panel gives its Final Four picks, a couple of upset specials, and a trip guide if you're going to Windsor, Ontario -- which The Detroit News nicknamed Sin City North.

ok romery...IU over Gonzaga?! well as an IU student, and having watched Killingsworth and Vaden barely show up long enough to beat the likes of Northwestern and Purdue, the hoosiers will be lucky to get by the San Diego State Aztecs in the first round. And as for IU's next coach, it will absolutely not be Bobby Knight. In case you missed the Cold Pizza episode last month, Knight wouldnt even discuss Indiana University, let alone return as coach. Now, back to the important stuff. On friday, i will be making the 6 hour drive north to watch the hawks shake off their first round woes and hopefully continue on to defeat Pitt. I've got the hawks losing to memphis in the sweet sixteen, but i could easily see them knocking off the tigers and bruins in route to the final four. And if you havent seen it, Andy Katz also has the jayhawks in the final four.
P.S.-as i am writing this, i have just had the privilege of hearing Mr. Bedore's picks, and i just want to say...i really hope none of you have any money riding on these IU picks cuz there arent many here in b-town that have them getting past round 1, despite their unbelievable luck as getting in as a 6 seed....

Just so everyone knows, Apple is making every tourney game available for $1.99 on iTunes the day after the game.

1.99? i'll watch it for free and tape it ;)
How long must we hear about Bucknell? Like you guys said, this team outside of the 2nd year guys and seniors, have no reason to think about Bucknell. Even those 2nd year guys and seniors didn't really play much. It wasn't like they each played 30 minutes and lost.
Texas loses to Iowa, KU beats Memphis and UCLA
Final 4: Iowa, KU, UConn and Boston College.
Upset Specials: South Alabama over Florida and Winthrop over Tennessee
Wichita loses to UNC in the Sweet 16

Samuelson? Swedish? NO WAY! I'm shocked. But seriously, for those who aren't already in the Detroit/Auburn Hills area but are planning to go, DON'T plan on going to Windsor. Yeah, I know... casino... bars... low drinking age... Cuban cigars... but getting back and forth across the border is worse than airport security these days. You need a birth certificate or valid passport or you can't cross the border. Too much stress. There's a casino in Detroit (MGM and Greektown) and plenty to do and especially EAT in Greektown and Mexicantown.... or even stick to Auburn Hills. The Great Lakes Crossing is (for those Kansas area folks) similar to the Mall of the Great Plains... big place, lots of shops, Bass Pro Shop, nice place to blow money, and literally right up the road from the Palace. Stick to the Michigan side... there's more than enough to do. And it's gonna be cold no matter which country you're in up here.
I'm thinking of a big "Spodcasters Rock" sign up in my super-nosebleed corner seats (Section 201 for those looking, or who know a CBS cameraperson). I'm planning on some serious posting in the fan photos when it's all said and done. I'm off to the open practice today, and then it's time to play!

Auburn Hills update... the shootaround today was fantastic. Everyone got to sit down by the floor and watch the guys do what they do. Nice little shooting show, a couple of nice alley-oop dunks (with Julian making it look far too easy)... great time. The best, however, was everyone hanging around to sign autographs for a few minutes, and the best of all that was Julian Wright. Everyone signed a lot of autographs, even Danny Manning, but Julian saw people off to one side, including myself, who were looking for autographs but were out of the main traffic and came over for the rest of us, AND stayed and signed long after everyone else was back in the locker room. He showed it on the court, and he's showing it off the court... a good old-fashioned Jayhawk class act.
And Keegan... I know you're out there. You really should put me on the post-game spodcast tomorrow night, no matter how late, especially after the beating you guys gave me about my call on the first Texas game. I've only missed two so far tonight, and one of those was because I believed in... uhhh... Marquette. The other was... well, who really believed in Montana, seriously. Ah well, I was mistaken, we're in Section 211, not 201... still super-nosebleed corner seats. My daughter and I will be checking out the Alumni Assn. table and pep rally before the game, but the rest of the time we'll be eating nachos (her) and drinking beer (me) and watching some fantastic basketball.

Ok... so other than the ending, Friday was fantastic! First of all, there was no beer, so I had to make due with Dippin' Dots, but that's ok. The Pep Rally was really just perfect. After all this time, I realized how much I missed being around all the Jayhawks! A chit chat with Lew Perkins, some photo opportunities with the guys (my daughter about flipped when she got her picture with Moody) and Max, plenty of autographs, and a chance to sing the Alma Mater with someone besides myself (thanks for putting me in the LJW by the way! That's me and my daughter in that picture!). Just an absolute blast. However, I took a sign with me, figuring that since the lone idiot with a sign in the upper deck ALWAYS gets on TV, and I was the lone idiot with a sign in the upper deck, that I was a shoe-in. But, my "SPODCASTERS RULE" sign just wasn't enough to get the attention of the camera guy. Ah well. 8 hours of basketball, nachos and pretzels (and Dippin' Dots), and a rockin' Pep Rally with lots of really great Alumni and fans... a great day, and I love that having the Jayhawk on your shirt means that you don't have to know anyone to have a room full of friends. Thanks for a great season boys, and I can't wait until next year! ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!
