Good spin coach! Great example of being mentally tough. The sky isn't falling.
Nope, the sky isn't falling...it already fell the last three games. We stink.
Isn't "good spin" an oxymoron?
Actually, it's not. But base on your post, I'd infer that you might be part of one.
"Actually, it's not. But base on your post, I'd infer that you might be part of one."
It's not effort, it's the level of talent. Ours is extremely low. Most of the best talent is sitting on the bench for 40 minutes.
Hey, Slick >> "Most of the talent......sitting on the bench....." Absolutely, one of my "top 10" brilliant (NOT) observations. May have to include your talent evaluation in our recruiting protocol from now on!!!
Slick you are exactly right, this is by far and away the least talented squad that Self has had since he has been here which is a result of a couple of bad recruiting years. Yes we have some talent on the bench with a bunch more coming in next year, that will hopefull add a couple more pieces for next year.
People just have to lower there expectations for the remainder of this year otherwise they are only going to be disappointed. My forecast for the rest of the year no Big 12 title, probably a 5 seed in the tourney and we will be upset by the dreaded 12 seeds like has happened so many time in the past.
Why believe a forecast from someone who doesn't know the difference between there and their.
2 lottery picks and a 5-star recruit who carried his team to a couple of tournament victories last year. Untalented indeed!
2 lottery picks what are you smoking, Ben (who can't do it by himself) yes, Whithey not a chance! The 5 star recruit you speak of never carried anything (take away TT & T-Rob) and at this point has to be considered a bust never living up to his #24 ranking coming out of high school!
Our beloved coach sounds like our beloved team looks... 1,2 and now 3 losses! These are mediocre teams we are losing to. Losing coach Manning had to be the biggest blow... The bigs are clueless out there. Withey can't even drop step to the basket without traveling... Nobody has a nice turn around jumper... The last two games I have seen too many players watching the ball instead of boxing there man out... Can we guard anything behind the arc? Are we not tough enough to fight for 50/50 balls? Offensive rebounding is terrible. KY is the only guy that wants to be on the floor... Coach Hudy, please make these guys hurt in the training room. Next years team doesn't deserve a break from boot camp!
I absolutely disagree. Withey is 5 star defensive post player and a 3 star offensive post player. He had two years under Manning. Are you suggesting he forgot everything? Our biggest problem is the lack of an elite "4 man". We've had a really nice run of power forwards, and while I appreciate KY's contributions, he's not an elite player at that position. That's our biggest problem. We don't have good offensive players in the post, which puts more pressure on the guards. Our system is an inside-out game. My feeling is if you had a TRob/Morris/DBlock/Arthur down their paired with Withey and KY being the 6th man he truly is, we wouldn't be in this slump.
I agree that the loss of Danny is proving to be more devastating than first anticipated. I say offer Danny a BIG FAT contract to come back with a gurantee of sliding into the HC position when Bill retires. Come on Danny,,, Once a Jayhawk, Always a Jayhawk!!
No, the sky isn't falling,,, but the status of this team is along with the stock of BMac. Silver lining,,, Ben comes back for a second year?
I agree with some of what Slick50 is saying, but coach is going to stay loyal to his 4-year and 5th-year seniors. Their time has come, and we're riding those horses. I highly doubt Coach makes any real changes other than slowly letting Tharpe get more and more time?
Next year should be fun though with Tharpe and Rio -- lot of speed and upside there. I always want to see more Traylor too.
But this year is FAR from over. Our upward trajectory has reversed, but there's some season left and a lot of play in March. I still think this group can get it going!
I hate to point out discrepancies in anything coach says but the last few years he's instilled in his players that winning the conference was the most important thing. Not to weigh wins or losses in November or December too heavily. And also not to look too far ahead to the NCAA tournament and what seed they get.Winning the conference is the #1 priority. Now I feel as if he's changed his mind. Which makes me worry more about his confidence than it does the teams. Sure he seems cool and collected in this post game conference but does it mean that he's really confident he can get these guys to get out of their own heads? These guys need to stop thinking and start playing. You can't sit in a team meeting and talk about having fun. You actually have to allow yourself to during the game.
Ask some serious questions, like will Tharpe next game? Will EJ see reduced minutes? These questions need to be asked.
No, Elijah isn't going to see reduced minutes people. Elijah helped lead this team to the national championship game last year, he's just playing out of position this year. KU has to go small and move Releford to the 4, allowing Tharpe to play the point. Kansas State has been playing small with Southwell at the 4 and he killed us last time at that position.
