Weis & Campo are now able to see the effect of this team getting no coaching/weight training for two years. It's catastrophic. Hopefully they'll see gradual improvement as the weeks go by. 2 more wins, I'd say, from what I saw tonight.
Let me politely disagree with your post on the following:
1) Weis & Campo could see the poor coaching/conditioning issues easily on gamefilm of last year's team, nothing new. 41 new players this season, many trying to play for the first time at KU, learn new schemes, etc. And many of the laccadaisical effort/talent kids were sent packing.
2) Your "2 more wins" may be correct, but your analytical qualifier is missing the mark (imho) when you say "from what I saw tonight". Did you hear Weis' press conference? He nailed it regarding what we all saw on the field: brand new QB, who hasnt played for a calendar year (rusty? jittery?), Receivers adjusting to game speed. Players on both sides still "learning" who they can trust out there. Maybe you dont cushion so much if you trust your safeties more, and the safeties are better coached. How about if a lot of the offense isnt installed yet? (Especially a Weis offense). And we all want to see a huge jump in the defense, and there's many new faces on the D-line, and at linebacker: Steven Johnson (last year's 1bright spot) is now a Denver Bronco. So we have the usual new-faces learning curve, on top of everything Gill screwed up. I apologize if I sound nit-picky, but many people try to condense and summarize, but your summation does not seem to do the current complex, fluid situation enough justice. And, lets be frank: I hope to think we could be able to win more than 3 total games. (Think about Rice, TTU, IowaSt, and a possible surprise win over 1 of: (Baylor, ksu). My guess is 4-5 wins. We also get Sims back for game 4, to join a more competent team hopefully...
Another big factor going forward will be to see what Weis & Campo can do with recruiting if given the full year to do so. Here he had 3 mos before the spring game, and patched together some influx of size and talent. He may have another 5star qb redshirted, but we need as many 4star or better players that he can get to really build some lasting momentum, which we havent even started yet, of course.
