No, that's what is referred to as an "A" Factor. We expect BMac to play at a high level. An "X" factor is unexpected production from an unexpected source.
Kevin Young's free throw shooting is a disgrace. If he doesn't pick it up he shouldn't be in at the end of games. BMac is the best college freshman, outside of Wilt, that I have ever seen at Kansas. Definitely huge advantage to have such an abundance of great athletes. Very few teams can stay with this depth. Ohio State was out of gas. Very encouraging.
He is not better than Danny Manning as a freshman or Paul Pierce. Anybody before that did not play as a freshman because NCAA rules did not allow it. You must not be very old. And I doubt you saw Wilt play.
Calm down guys give the guy a break. I know pierce and manning may have been better, but I was 10 when pierce played so to me, the two best freshman I've seen at ku are bmac and brush. No reason to insult the posters age or mock their lack of expertise regarding KU basketball history. I guarantee you if you polled 1,000 KU fans at random of at least 18 years old, at least half would probably think wilt played as a freshman not knowing back then there was varsity and junior varsity and all freshman had to play jv.
I agree with the posters comment about KYs ft% is atrocious. But his solid post D and decent post O and worlds ahead of traylor (who wouldn't shoot much better if given the chance) and Ellis (who most likely will be splitting mins with KY through the NCAAs before the season is over). Self I don't think can rely on anyone else other than Withey and KY in the post in crunch time unless you give up size and put releford at 4 and go very small. And against most teams that's not an option from here on as the size of our opponents only gets bigger going into the major conferences. I just hope the 4-10 yesterday and the over % for the season (I don't know it offhand but I know it's bad) is just a bad start and not the norm.
Everyone is talking, understandably about BMac. So I'll take note some of the other players. I thought Jamari and Naadir provided great minutes. The very short time Anrio was in seemed to energize him. His body language on the bench was much better. Sorry AW3 didn't get in. Not sure what that was about other than coach always shortens his bench in tough road games. During the game I thought Perry played terrible, but on second viewing he did some good things which didn't involve scoring. He seemed a little nervous. Everyone needs to be patient with Perry, especially Perry. He is doing fine and will only get better.
Everyone in the country now knows what we know, and are still discovering... we have a true Phenom on our hands. But as coach says, he is even now still figuring out how to play and fully utilize gifts few others have. As was noted by the broadcast crew, it is really a credit to coach to have the culture at KU which allows 4 talented in their own right seniors to embrace the talent of a freshman knowing he is a key to them having Big 12 and post-season success with a deep run in the tournament, minus petty ego stuff. This is KU basketball at its best. All for one and one for all. Enjoy the ride with this starting 5, because we will have 5 new players starting next year.
