Kansas defensive coordinator Vic Shealy took responsibility for the defensive performance in his team's 66-24 loss to Georgia Tech on Sept. 17, 2011.
Copy and paste the link:
Time to figure out why you can't make the running needed adjustments during games. If you can't make adjustments than you must turn in your resignation. Your teams performance was an embarassement. Just think, Ga Tech wasn't even rated. Whats going to happen when we face OU, OSU, MU...etc...etc...
Coach, your players look like they have no idea what they're doing out there on defense. They don't look confident, prepared, or even eager to play. They take bad angles to the ball and look out of position. This is 3 games in a row now. What was put on display was THE WORST defensive performance we have ever seen. And that's saying something because we KU fans have, unfortunately, seen some really bad defense over the years.
You and Coach Wyatt should probably look for employment elsewhere after this season. I am totally dismayed.
Concerning our new aggressive defense, were we playing with 8 men or 11 men?
Sounds about right.
Recoup and be fully prepared for the Texas Tech game.
Totally unprepared. Embarrassing. The red flag for our defense was waving in the first game when we had a hard time stopping McNeese State. Today, Wisconsin is rolling NIU. I am afraid that this will not be the last blow out loss for our team. Damn it, I just wish one year we could have a strong defense.
Don't be so down on the coaches and players. Your team just ran into a buzz saw and my emphasis is on BUZZ. We the Tech fans respect KU, the staff and players. Luck the rest of the way and all I can say is GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Jackets.
Tech will be embarrassed itself a few times this year. This was a complete meltdown. Almost a thrown game. I was embarrassed for everyone--including tech.
Who creates accounts to go comment on other teams' message boards? Who does that? I don't do that.
But here's the deal, yes, we should be down on the defensive coordinator, for one thing, because he's down on himself.
He acknowledges it, why shouldn't we.
Also, really? You're going to use a buzz joke? Really?
You did a nice job of picking apart a high school defense Yellow Jackets, we just don't have a defense right now.
But seriously, you're Georgia Tech, don't go around talking smack and talking about how you're a buzz saw, cause you're going to run into some trouble yourself down the road. Granted, you're in the ACC, so it's probably not going to be super competitive.
But honestly, best of luck the rest of the season. Although, I would advise against talking smack on teams that were as under prepared on defense as us Jayhawks.
Ok Shealy... now that you have admitted defeat, you must commit seppuku/harikiri.
Well, that bubble screen play didn't burn us this week (at least).
PigBallin hate to tell you this but Tech is that good! You just got a taste of a real team not what you played the last 2 weeks.
Yes, Georgia Tech is a "Real Team."
Like I said, I'd advise against talking smack, Georgia Tech. I'm a die hard Jayhawk, and I'm here to inform you, you played against an offense this week with no D, which hardly qualifies Kansas as a "real team." Good luck when you guys play a real "real team."
Best of luck with the rest of the season, and good luck getting to a bowl game.
Let's please not pretend like this is an unstoppable offense. If it was, then programs like KU and other non-powerhouse programs would run it. He's completely over his head at the BCS level
Lets see 66 points, 49 points and now 66 points yep it's that good when run correctly and yes Tech ran it correctly.
OH almost forgot you have to have the special players like Tech has, OK had and Nebraska had to run it correctly. Tech will lose don't know when and to to whom but a team with superior player will defeat Tech. Course it was not KU.
Losing Torbush was huge for this team. I don't think he'd have made a difference in the final outcome, but we would have likely had a few more stops. We've had 3 games and have yet to really stop anyone. I don't see adjustments being made. Very disappointing. Let's hope Turner can land a decent D coordinator in the off season because this guy isn't getting it done. Our guys look completely lost.
I read the Headline that Shealy took full responsibility. Does that mean he resigned?
I was hoping as such.
Get lost, troll.
They should have made the defensive coaches and players walk back from georgia so they would enough time to reflect on their performance.
At least, put them on a bus!
And the win last week does not looks as good after the 49-7 pounding NIU took, granted Wisconsin is a great team, but still....
Glad I skipped the game and saw a movie.
Turner Gill is guaranteed 2 million dollars a year for five years so forget that. This was a total embarrassment but we had better get used to it. If you look at the recruiting class for next year, there is not a defensive tackle among them. There are two quarterbacks and if Berglund returns, half our team will be quarterbacks or running backs. We are in a very precarious situation as far as any conference wanting us and it does not look good. Texas Tech is the one team that was projected that we might win so we will stew for a couple of weeks as mental invalids before anything happens.
OMG the sky is falling, the sky is falling!
The coaching staff stated the Jayhawks had quality players. Thus we must assume that the coaches did not know how to make adjustments to GT. The question is "why"? KU played this team last year! Could the problem be the coaches inability to understand the dynamics and make adjustments???
Do we have another 2 win season to look forward to?
Another? When was the last time we had a 2 win season? I think Mangino's first year. We won 3 last year, if you forgot.
I wish we had a free throwing coach for basketball and a tackling coach for football. This has to be the worse tackling team in the country. It would seem logically that if your system gets beat, instincts would take over. Our defenders neither are able to execute the system correctly, nor do they have any instincts for making plays.
With even a bad defense, this team could win 6-7 games. Unfortunately, the KU D is awful. Will need big-time upgrades in talent and coaching in the off-season. They have to get some talent and size on the D-line.
I believe that Sports Center just reported that GT's average rushing yards/carry (around 12 I think) is a new NCAA BCS single game record. Did anyone else catch this?
Before throwing the head coach under the bus, please keep in mind that we lost our defensive coordinator very late to health issues. The offense is coming along. Let's get a good coordinator in and see if the defense can take some steps forward in the next 18 months. It's going to take a recruiting class or two though.
Getting schemed has nothing to do with the between 20 to 30 missed tackles that I saw throughout the game. From my count the KU defense could have saved two touchdowns in the first half just on missed tackles alone. That would have presented an entirely different set of circumstances going into the 2nd half.
Even with being schemed the defense is poor fundamentally as a whole. And, I can't imagine that KU fans and the general public didn't see this coming as they allowed high yardage to FCS - McNeese State and couldn't stop Northern Illinois (who lost to Wisconsin by 42 today on a neutral field!!!).
I appreciate the explanation, but wouldn't you think Georgia Tech might change up some stuff to help them win this time as they lost last year? A true judge in any sport of the ability to game coach or the inability in this case is the lack of adjustments to give your players a chance. They didn't get outschemed they got completely embarrassed.
Bottom line there were a ton of factors. Mentally, this team isn't tough enough to bounce back from a 14 point deficit. But I am not going to jump ship with the rest of the rats. I am going to wait and see. If the rest of the games look like this one......though I am a Gull supporter, I think it will be time for a coordinator change. To be honest, I think one will happen anyway....we just didn't have time this season. So...lets just enjoy the week off and hope that the Texas Tech game is much better.
Wow! Reality really does sux.
As I said earlier--this is the kind of beat down and effort that makes you withdraw from football. I have seen a lot of football--but this was the worst defense I have ever seen.
O Coordinator, D Coordinator, Head Coach all failed to prepare for this game. This is not Buffalo Turner Gill. This is the big boy league now. Now become a big boy.
I couldn't figure out why tech was even attempting pass plays?
Tech was attempting the pass plays because Kansas was using the corners for run defense, and it was working. The problem is that the safeties were having to cover the wide receivers, which left the middle of the field open for a passes to an A-back.
Somebody just told me they saw Mangino in their church today. Maybe if we all start praying real hard we could see him back in Lawrence again real soon! That would be an answered prayer now would'nt it? The fat man walking the sidlines and the Jayhawks winning football games again! Maybe a miracle! Guess thats what its going to take - a miracle for this group of coaches to figure it out and the Jayhawks start winning again.
Look folks, I'm seeing a lot of fairweather "when does basketball start" Jayhawk fans on here. And you have as much right to post on these boards because you sometimes decide to watch KU games. But do not make the mistake of thinking you are really KU fans and supporters.
I support the Kansas Jayhawks, not just basketball, and I'll stand behind our team if we suck, or if we're winning, whatever the sport. Of course, suddenly the room becomes more crowded when we go to the Orange bowl, and I just sit there and smile because the Jayhawk football players are finally getting the kind of support they deserve every year, win or lose.
But yeah, you could be one of those "Oh, I like KU in basketball and K-State/Nebraska in football" type of people. There's nothing wrong with that. Except everything.
You know what? I don't even know why I read these comments anyway. Sure, there's a sliver of good conversation every once in a while, but mostly it's just childish trash.
I'm taking a break folks. I'm going to read the articles, and stop scrolling at the end of the report.
90% of what's on the message board is just argumentative and insulting, and then I get sucked into it and start arguing and insulting, and that's just classless.
So, if you've felt personally attacked by me, I sincerely apologize. That's not who I am, I just get sucked into it by ignorant, argumentative people who have too much time on their hands, which I am fortunately having less and less of these days.
So I'm taking a break from the message boards. I've had enough of this bologna.
Sorry...too much? I post on here a lot. Too much, actually. I just kind of spewed frustrations into that post. Anyway, see y'all after a while...
So... I don't see anyone else talking about this, but up until late this past spring, it was unsure whether or not Coach Gill was going to be with the school. Word is that he is so high and almighty Christian that he's had and having difficulty connecting with and motivating his team. Not in a normal "I have religion" way, but in a way that is overbearing and problem causing. The administration opted to keep him and give him a chance. So far, that's proven to be a bad choice. His team looks just as unmotivated, uninspired and scattered as ever. The poor boys try hard, but I've heard that it's just unbelievably difficult to deal with his religious fervor.
No one wants to bring it up or talk about it. But it's clearly not an issue that's fixing itself. and the whole university is suffering for it.
Gill - give the boys a break. Stop forcing your issues down their throats and lead them, not beat them into submission. sheesh...... get it together already and get over yourself.
HEY KLEAVE, you must not watched the game that was a major embarssment, how many 1 play drives did you witness. If that is the kind of football you like go to another team or just STFU!
