2 for 21 from 3pt range. Barley 50% from the line. Nothing from the bench. it's amazing that we got back in the game so quickly in the 2nd half only to lose all momentum as soon as we got within a possession. Congrats VCU but KU played TOO hard at times and pressed themselves out of a great chance to capture another title.

Bill Self is very classy. I am glad that he is our coach.

'However, we have choked the last 2 years against far inferior teams.' This team was just darn lucky to get this far - let's face the facts!

Maybe the entire Big XII has been over rated.

It was. 5 teams selected, only 1 in the S16.

Get real! None of what occurred tonight was to blame on "bad coaching". You don't get good players without a good coach.

Our players were not hitting shots tonight. If you go back through and watch the game, you'll notice that the plays Self was calling worked just fine, each resulted in an open shot. The problem was, those WIDE OPEN SHOTS didn't go in.

I can't stand people who claim Self is a bad coach. How can you call him a bad coach after a National Title and a 3-loss season?!

Be realistic--a team does NOT win 35 games by luck!

Free throw shooting. Syracuse all over again. I'm ill. I have nothing more to say except I'm still proud of this team.

Free throws didn't kill us. We shot 15/28. If we shoot 72 percent, which is I think isw above the team average, we net only five additional points. The 2/22 from three is what killed us. Keep the 15/28 free throws but make 6/22 threes--a lousy 27 percent--and we win by two.

The problem with the 15/28 free throw stat is that it doesn't account for missed freebies on the front end of a one and one. Not sure how many of those we had, but hit the first and second and it's a totally different story.

I dunno.. I'm starting to think I'd rather win only 25 games a year and have more shots at titles.

tx, you're and idiot. This VCU team is a good team. Weren't you watching? We got beat by a team that has a great chance to win it all. They've proved it. 67 teams go home disappointed. We are among them, sorry to say, but we still had a great year when no one thought we would. Great year team. Keep your heads up!!

Yes, VCU was good. Yes, we played terribly. However, can we address the obvious one-sided refereeing??? We were getting hammered every time we drove to the basket. No foul. Meanwhile, we would get called for every little dink foul the refs could conjure.

The NCAA has quite a bit riding on the "Cinderella" team going all the way. They have taken a lot of heat for their decision to add a play-in first round for 4 teams. VCU's ongoing success in the tournament will only silence the naysayers. Who pays the refs?? NCAA. Yeah, that's what I thought. Shame.

I've said it before but hey guys it's frees and threes. If we shoot at or just below our average for those two stats, we win by 10 or so.

I was at the game the ref crack is bad...they evened things out over the course of the game, another great year!!!!! VCU played tough and we could not hit a thing, our defense was good but so was theirs!!! we have an outstanding coach and he runs an outstanding program....proud to be a jayhawk!!!!!! rock chalk!!!!! maybe football?????

this loss makes me sick to my stomach. Another game lost to a mid-major that we "should've" won. Same old song and dance (except 2008). We always have players that can't get it done in crunch time. We need to recruit more "shooters" evidently, because 3 point shooting wins tournament games.

You have a point. Some coaches build tournament teams that shine at year end with records just good enough to get to the dance. No team can beat a good 3 point shooting team. That was our Achilles heal. If VCU continues to shoot the ball they will cut down the nets on April 4th. But I wouldn't be surprised if they come down to earth on the next game and everyone will say "KU lost to that lousy team?"

It just makes me sick that we have to feel like this every year it seems like. Every year we have a great team that has a chance at a NC and all but one year recently it ends in heartbreak. And more often than not it's to a team we would beat 95 of 100 times.......oh well rock chalk!

Its the tournament. March MADNESS. You really can't expect to win every year, even with the best players and a great coach. Sometimes players have off games. Sometimes momentum is all a smaller team needs to propel themselves further in the tournament.

I'd say that winning in 2008 is still something all Jayhawks hold close to their hearts, and as much as I wish we could've done it again this year, I'm still proud of the team and happy with the whole season.

IMHO it started with the fiasco where KU messed with the U or R players in the tunnel. That didn't play out well in Richmond or in VA. U or R is only 5 or 6 miles from VCU and the guys know each other. Do you think there were lots of text messages after VCU beat FL? Then KU trash talked Joey before the game. This stuff might seem insignificant to an elite bunch like you guys but it started the downhill spiral. It's called class and it can help you or hurt you. I would think that any team would want every advantage going into a game of that importance. Review Butler's coach's interview recently concerning the upcoming VCU game on Saturday. Low key, top notch, no ruffled feathers. In fact, he complimented VCU. Coach Self said during the U of R game that "we are already separated" after the reporter asked about the incident in the tunnel. What kind of elitist comment is that? I don't think that comment went over well over here either. Old VCU alum
