Photo detail

1996-97 — Arguably the best team in school history joined the group of tourney heartbreakers when the top-seeded Jayhawks were upset by No. 4 seed Arizona in the Sweet 16. Again led by Raef LaFrentz (18.5 ppg) and Paul Pierce (16.3 ppg), with the backcourt of Jacque Vaughn and Jerod Haase serving as the perfect complement, the Jayhawks finished 34-2 and were the first of three No. 1 seeds to fall to the Wildcats during Arizona’s historic run to the national title.
