The world just turned upside down. Somebody must have hacked this account...

JayDocMD 9 years, 4 months ago

I see you ahper. And good job SZ, but thats a rough 55...

danhayseed 9 years, 4 months ago

He better lose that Nike bracelet! LOL Hopefully he is the right man for the job, but I trust Zenger made the right choice.

okiedave 9 years, 4 months ago

Is that a medical alert bracelet next to the Nike band? I am so concerned about this hire, but hopes he comes in with passion and energy. Wisb Weis all the right breaks and a winning season.

bui63 9 years, 4 months ago

It's actual a bracelet that represents his charity for his special needs daughter. but thanks for being a jacka$$

James Kiernan 9 years, 4 months ago

No, his new employer needs to lose that Adidas junk when that contract expires next season and ink a new deal with Nike.

CardHawkFan 9 years, 4 months ago

Yep, something is going on with ahperse! Way to go SZ! I think Tait should get the first interview

DevilHawk 9 years, 4 months ago

Either Matt/KUSports or Jon Kirby/JayhawkSlant.

Recruiting is still a major priority, and I'm guessing that Rivals is read more than KUSports - though I could be wrong.

Paula Unseth 9 years, 4 months ago

I love him already! SWAG that power scooter up...

Fred Davis 9 years, 4 months ago

Great hire. Weis has a lot to prove and if he can turn around KU, his tenure at Notre Dame will be an afterthought....

HawkSchooner 9 years, 4 months ago

Well, the last fat guy we got was pretty good.

Cory McCart 9 years, 4 months ago

HAHAHAHA. for some reaosn, your post made me laugh.

that would be nice, though.

Micky Baker 9 years, 4 months ago

I saw one rumor that maybe Leavitt is going to be Weis's DC?

The people he puts around him will be important.

Michael Maris 9 years, 4 months ago

I asked Blair Kerkoff about the KU contract with Addidas and whether that was keeping KU from getting more 4 star recruits. Still have not heard back from Blair on that topic yet.

Great job Sheahon. It is nice to see Apherse finally have a positive comment about KU Football.

I can't get on the other story with 600 comments to see what everyone else has already said since the official announcement.

I hate to admit it but you are right about adidas. Sad to think that would effect a player but I know it does....

Michael Maris 9 years, 4 months ago

Nike, Adiddas, AND1, etc........ that kind of crap reminds me to much of Myron Piggie and his old posse shenanigans.

Another bad decision that Lew Perkins made in his tenure in the KU Athletic Department.

gorilla10 9 years, 4 months ago

agreed, what do we have two more years on that contract?

WaxAndWane 9 years, 4 months ago

Another bad decision? That was a $26 million dollar windfall for KU. If Zenger can put together a deal like that with Nike, more power to him. He doesn't have that kind of clout though.

kupride4u 9 years, 4 months ago

Honestly I would prefer Adidas apparel, but I think most kids see it differently. However, I don't think that's keeping basketball recruits away. If Weis starts winning, I don't care if we are an Adidas, Nike, or Sam's Club school, people will start coming.

DSKornkage 9 years, 4 months ago

Adidas is making sort of an underground comeback as far as kids and fashion. Don't know how far it will go, but it is what it is. Would LOVE to see how Oregon would fare if the NCAA came out and said you get one home set up, one away set up, and you can have one alternate for the year.

ahpersecoachingexperience 9 years, 4 months ago

That look on Sheahon's face is the look of a man that is going to fire Ray B first thing in the morning.

middleoftheroader 9 years, 4 months ago

It's wonderful to see your positive turnaround, I think this calls for a new avatar. What do you think?

ahpersecoachingexperience 9 years, 4 months ago

<-- too obvious? I know. I'll do better in the morning

Paula Unseth 9 years, 4 months ago

So, you can definitely call him "Big man on Campus" Good Luck Mr. Weis, you WILL get the respect you deserve!

I'm glad Keegan didn't write an article about Weis, if he had I'm sure it wouldn't have worked.

I'm actually pretty happy. 1) Leach - would have been a splash, but you can't hire lawsuits 2) Fedora - Most overrated coach every, and especially after that win against Houston. That game alone probably got him another $5MM over the life of his contract. 3) Auburn OC - Only was decent with Cam Newton, and least qualified of the assistants I heard about (Venables, Chryst, Diaz) 4) Doeren - Decent, but I think he is 2-3 years from having proved himself. Plus whether people want to admit it or not, he lost to TG and that is hard to swallow. 5) Leavitt - Baggage and tough to get from the 49ers (plus I'm a 49ers fan, and want him to keep doing what he is doing). 6) Keutter (sp?) - I hope he was never too legit. 7) Sumlin, June Jones - Never interested in KU. 8) Fulmer - Would have been a huge splash, and I think probably the top choice. I think there was some type of baggage we just don't know about. Somehow he didn't pass the Lew P or the SZ screen, so something must be out there, that we just can't get the info about.

I'm loving the hire. I'll love it even more if he could get Bill Cowher as his Defensive Coordinator. In my reality world, I'll be happy with a solid DC. I'm excited to hear who he goes after. With regards to the OC, I don't think I'm as concerned (but get rid of Long).

From a recruiting perspective. I hope Mitchell stays to help our link there. I hope that his 1 year in Florida gave him just a little in there. I'm hoping with his ND time, that he'll be able to do general recruiting everywhere.

If I had to bet, I betcha we get at least one 4-Star recruit this year now. I betcha we cover all of our scholarships as well.

However, the biggest thing I hope is that tomorrow he starts the off season conditioning program. That would be huge.

Congrats Head Coach Charlie Weis, welcome to Jayhawk Nation, you'll enjoy it.

Kyle Sybesma 9 years, 4 months ago

Love the hire. I'm excited about the offense Weis brings and the super bowl rings. Could it be that the discussions with Malzahn were about him becoming the OC. Auburn's DC left to Central or South Florida for the same position. That seems strange. Is something going on at Auburn that the staff of Chizik (sp?) wants out?

Malzahn would be a great addition but the real focus needs to be on the DC. Without it it'll be tough to compete in the high scoring Big 12.

Congrats to SZ for a great hire. NFL experience. BSC head coaching experience. Big time name. This hire fills a lot of requirements. Matt you were right about the mystery name. There was always someone out there that was always being taken seriously.

JHawk06 9 years, 4 months ago

Auburns DC got a "soft landing" spot at ucf... Lots of talk down here (I'm in bama) wanted him gone.

Randy Bombardier 9 years, 4 months ago

I was not real high on his bandwagon. Without Cam he is not the boy genius. And his wife...kinda unnerving. I imagine she is going to be a Youtube regular now. You can do better. Besides the spread is behind the curve. Power run game is the direction of the future national champs.

jgkojak 9 years, 4 months ago

In three years we'll be where KSU is... #8 and playing in a non-BCS bowl.

PSM 9 years, 4 months ago

weis giving mangina a run for his money...

pjseele 9 years, 4 months ago

I think it was a great hire and if he brings Leavitt as DC and you all give him at least 3yrs they will be atop the big 12!

Chris Bruning 9 years, 4 months ago

If ole Charlie can get this thing goin then in three years our dream season would look something like this: 1. Play in the Big 12 championship game 2. Ranked in the top 20 in most offensive categories 3. BCS bowl game 4. Darrian Miller heisman candidate 5. More 4 and 5 star recruits start to take notice Hey, it could happen!!!

master16 9 years, 4 months ago

that would be a heck of a season, but let's just hope that doesn't mean a big time football school in need of a head coach comes knocking on his door.

because let's face it: at this current time KU is not a destination school.

TheShot122293 9 years, 4 months ago

If our biggest problem in three years is that Charlie Weis is a target for someone else because of putting KU squarely on the map, I'll take it! If a coach leaves for that reason, rather than under the circumstances of the last two firings, KU will be an attractive job for some relatively big names.

kupride4u 9 years, 4 months ago

Actually, #1 cannot happen, unless the Big 12 plans on adding more teams.

letourneau41 9 years, 4 months ago

There is no longer a Big 12 Championship game. Unless we have more schools coming in the near future. So that one might be hard to obtain.

rgh 9 years, 4 months ago

If nothing else, he brings instant credibility to KU and the Big XII. It's exciting to know that we will be able to rebuild quickly rather than later.

3crookedhearts 9 years, 4 months ago

Dude looks exactly like what Michael Buble will look like in 30 years. Hilarious. Great hire by the way. Incredible hire. Never thought in a million years we could get such a high profile guy.

JayDocMD 9 years, 4 months ago

Neither are buckled up. And can anyone see if Zenger's hands are at 10 and 2?

RockChalk26 9 years, 4 months ago

That ride must not be equipped with seatbelt extenders.

Eric TheCapn 9 years, 4 months ago

At where?! Around when?! The suspense is killing me!

Randy Bombardier 9 years, 4 months ago

Worst hire of all the openings so far. 3-9 next year. 4-8, 5-7, 2-10 then he leaves.

Eric Williams 9 years, 4 months ago

Illinois hired the Toledo HC. Just sayin'...

rhollinshed 9 years, 4 months ago

Inteldesign....You are no Jayhawk fan. MU fans post on powermizzou. Get off our site you troll! This is a great hire. Only a fool couldn't see that. You sir are extremely foolish!

Randy Bombardier 9 years, 4 months ago

I did the rah, rah bit with Gill. Now i am using my brain. So, tell me why this is such a great hire. Are you of that sort that love a good name-dropping? That is about all this hire will do for us. If you are up to it, reply to one of my many posts about why I think this is a bad hire.

If you posted much you would know I have a long history here under one name trying to see the positive of things. I was not a Gill man but I became one for the sake of the team. Now, not years from now, is the time to get answers about this hiring. If I seem a little pissy, too bad. We have got to learn from these situations. I want to know why SZ made this choice and how he got here and what is the liability to KU. MU fans probably don't care about that.
