KU's Sonia Smagina and Anastasia Rychagova celebrates their team win during the Big 12 Championship Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Tennis Center on April 21, 2019.
Riding the wave of some serious confidence and emotion from a 19-4 season, the 13th-ranked Kansas women's tennis program and head coach Todd Chapman will play host to No. 47 Denver University at 1 p.m. Friday at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in first-round NCAA Tournament action. By Matt Tait
The Jayhawks had two different chances to clinch a Big 12 Championship for the first time ever.
Kansas junior Maria Toran Ribes lofted the shot over the head of Texas senior Katie Poluta. As soon as the tennis ball landed on the other side of the net, Toran Ribes turned to her right and flung her racquet in the air. The racquet flipped five times before falling to the floor on the sixth court at the Jayhawk Tennis Center. Shane Jackson
