Even bad news from the dentist couldn’t wipe the smile off Tyshawn Taylor’s face Tuesday afternoon. “I need a root canal,” Taylor, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard from St. Anthony High in Jersey City, N.J., said in a phone interview from the doctor’s office to discuss his decision to commit orally to play basketball at Kansas University. “Except for that, I’m really happy.” Read more.

Kansas University junior Mario Chalmers — who 21⁄2 weeks ago hit the biggest shot in KU basketball history — may have hoisted his last jumper in college. Chalmers, whose clutch three-pointer sent KU’s 75-68 NCAA championship victory over Memphis into overtime, on Wednesday announced he’s entering the 2008 NBA Draft without an agent. Read more.

Darrell Arthur had a case of the sniffles at a Thursday afternoon news conference during which he and Kansas University teammate Brandon Rush announced their intentions to enter the 2008 NBA Draft. “I wasn’t crying. Rodrick Stewart watched the Orange Bowl as a big Kansas University football fan on Jan. 3. But after seeing the Jayhawks beat Virginia Tech, 24-21, Stewart’s feelings of elation soon subsided. They were replaced with a bit of anxiety. Read more.

All of the Jayhawks were happy after this one, from Russell Robinson, who didn’t score, to Chalmers and Sasha Kaun, who led the way with 13 points apiece on a day points were tough to come by. Everybody seemed most happy for coach Self, who will finally get to experience a Final Four when the Jayhawks meet Roy Williams’ North Carolina Tar Heels in the second of two games next Saturday in San Antonio. Darrell Arthur ordered hot wings off the menu at Henry T’s Bar and Grill. Sherron Collins selected the turkey club sandwich. “My teammates would never let me eat hot wings ... you know, the weight (issue),” the 5-foot-11, 205-pound Collins said with a smile. Russell Robinson chose the shrimp basket, while Sasha Kaun just sipped on water. “I wasn’t hungry. I already had a late lunch. This was an early dinner,” Kaun said. Read more.

Watching Kansas University lose to Oklahoma State in Stillwater, then driving back to Lawrence to watch a DVR replay of Tennessee defeating Memphis, remaining bullish on KU’s chances of reaching the Final Four became more difficult than at any time since witnessing the missed layups against UCLA in San Jose. Still, it’s far too early to make plans that don’t involve a trip to San Antonio for the first weekend of April, just in case. Read more.
