Don’t worry, Jayhawks fans. The NBA can wait for Brandon Rush. The guy in the No. 25 jersey said as much Friday, with a smile as wide as a youngster dreaming of a professional career and eyes focused crisply on postseason championships.

Collins busts slump

Freshman ends 2-game scoreless jag

Sherron Collins’ scoring is back. Sort of. Kansas University’s freshman guard had a goose egg in each of his last two games in terms of point production. So to have simply an average outing - eight points on 4-of-8 shooting - in KU’s 64-47 victory over Oklahoma on Friday was almost a bit of a relief.

Friday’s victory was Bill Self’s 100th at Kansas University against 28 losses. Does the 100th win mean much to KU’s fourth-year coach? “No, but I figured you’d bring it up,” he cracked. “We’ve got a lot of work left. We’re off to a good start this year. We’ve got to finish strong.”

Brandon Rush’s coach ordered him to be more aggressive in the second half. Kevin Durant’s first-half performance was forgettable. Luckily for Texas, he made up for it by putting on a show in the second half. Durant, the league’s player of the year, missed his first 12 shots but recovered to finish with 29 points and 13 rebounds, and the fifteenth-ranked Longhorns came from 20 points down to beat Baylor 74-69 Friday night in the Big 12 Conference tournament quarterfinals.

Mario Boggan scored from the right block with 11.5 seconds left to give Oklahoma State a 57-56 victory over No. 7 Texas A&M in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals Friday night.
