Keegan: Reesing, Meier draw winning play in sand

A platoon of coaches on both sides watching two solid weeks of football game film from sunup to way past sundown. Memorizing formations. Devising schemes. Constantly studying. Boiling it down and drilling it into the heads of the players.

Mangino: Reesing’s struggles no concern

In just two years as Kansas University’s starting quarterback, Todd Reesing has moved to the top of a number of lists - passing yards and touchdowns in a KU career, to name a few. Unfortunately for the junior from Austin, Texas, this season he’s also found himself atop a far-less desirable list: Interceptions among Big 12 quarterbacks.

Reesing’s journey to KU started in Little Apple

These days, it’s hard to imagine Todd Reesing as anything besides Kansas University’s starting quarterback. Saturday afternoons in the fall, top 25 rankings and bowls of oranges have pretty much become synonymous with the 5-foot-11, 200-pound junior.

Woodling: Woodling: Too tiny? Not these 3 QBs

In street clothes, Todd Reesing looks more like an alto in the cherub choir than he does a major-college quarterback. Yet the Kansas University junior quarterback can play. He’s one of the best passing QBs in the country. In the same vein, Camren Torneden looks more like a jockey intern than he does a high school quarterback in the state’s largest classification.

Reesing’s scramble one for the ages

10 years from now, Kansas football fans who attended Saturday’s game against Sam Houston State will still be talking about ‘The Play.’

Mangino says QB trying too hard

KU coach wants junior just 'to play quarterback'

The gunslinger mentality Todd Reesing has developed during his time as Kansas University’s starting quarterback certainly has its perks. It has earned him mention in various national sports publications - the New York Times sports page being the most recent example.

Reesing impressed by TD

Todd Reesing had to stop a second while pondering the question after his Kansas University football team’s 38-14 victory Saturday over Sam Houston State. Surely his 57-yard, highlight-reel touchdown pass to Dezmon Briscoe in the second quarter would make it on “SportsCenter,” along with every KU football highlight film from 2008.

Keegan: Keegan: Who is this mystery man?

Reesing gets a laugh out of not being recognized

Sometimes, the life of Riley isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Neither is the life of Reesing. Robert Riley, a Journal-World reporter by day and a cage fighter/instructor by night, strolls Mass Street in the late afternoons, asking topical questions of strangers. He shoots pictures of them and runs their responses in the daily “On the Street” feature.

Keegan: Keegan: Defense, not QB, to blame

Quarterback Todd Reesing didn’t lose the game Friday night for Kansas University. Instead, he almost won it, amid a swarming rush, without any running game to speak of and with very little help from a defense exposed from front to back.

Reesing: Interception just short

So just how close was Kansas University to a football victory Friday night? Todd Reesing says a couple of feet, tops. It was the Kansas quarterback’s final throw - his underthrown pass that was intercepted by safety Nate Allen - that ended up being the game-deciding play in KU’s 37-34 loss at Raymond James Stadium. According to Reesing, it wasn’t short by much.

Keegan: Keegan: Reesing great equalizer

Much of the hype for Friday night’s Kansas-South Florida game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa centers on a matchup that pits proven performance against potential. South Florida’s George Selvie, second in the nation in sacks with 20 and an All-American as a sophomore last season, faces redshirt freshman Jeff Spikes, making his third career start. The mismatch of experience plays a part in South Florida being favored by a field goal. It’s a legitimate concern. It also is overplayed because it doesn’t take into account the equalizer.

Great responsibility

Mortensen, Rivera, Cantrell, Reesing are KU captains

The word captain carries with it many different meanings. From the commander of a ship on the high seas or leader of a military outfit all the way down to the guys who pick the teams on the playground, captains have held a variety of responsibilities throughout history. You know what they are, you understand what they do. But what do they mean to a football program that plays its games at the highest level of the collegiate ranks?

Reesing lands on award watch list

Reesing undisputed starter at QB in ‘08

A year ago this week, it was a two-man quarterback race for the KU football team. Todd Reesing vs. Kerry Meier. In the end, Reesing won the job and led the Jayhawks to a 12-1 season capped off with an Orange Bowl victory.
