Kansas softball goes 1-1 during two-game set with Northern Iowa

By Staff Report     Mar 14, 2021

After winning just once in three games against South Dakota State earlier in the week, the Kansas softball team didn’t fare much better in its two-game stretch against Northern Iowa over the weekend.

KU earned a 4-1 win over Northern Iowa on Friday, but then dropped a 3-0 decision to the same opponent on Saturday. The Jayhawks (11-8) finished with a 2-3 clip in the Rock Chalk Challenge, in which all five games took place at Arrocha Ballpark.

Junior Morgyn Wynne went 2-for-3 with a sole home run and two RBI in KU’s lone victory against Northern Iowa. Wynne then went 2-for-3 with two singles in Saturday’s loss, extending her hitting streak to seven games.

“I’m extremely proud of Morgyn’s progress over the last two weekends,” Kansas head coach Jennifer McFalls said in a team release. “She got off to a bit of a slow start, but she has come in and worked on her mental approach to the game.”

During Friday’s win, KU sophomore pitcher Tatum Goff struck out seven batters on her way to her fourth complete game of the season. Goff only gave up three hits against the 29 batters she faced, while improving to 4-1 on the year.

Kansas will host the Jayhawk Invitational this weekend at Arrocha Ballpark. Tulsa, North Dakota State and South Dakota will be competing in the event.
