The Kansas football coaches picked up another three-star prospect for the Jayhawks’ 2022 recruiting class on Monday night, when Texas prep Jacobe Chester announced his decision to commit to KU.

Chester, listed as an athlete by Rivals, is a potential defensive back at the college level, and joined three other high school juniors in the class. All four are rated as three-star talents.

Assistants Emmett Jones and Chevis Jackson and head coach Les Miles all recruited Chester, a standout at Fort Bend Marshall High, in Missouri City, Texas.

Listed at 6-foot and 180 pounds, Chester also picked up scholarship offers from Colorado, Houston, Rutgers, UNLV and other programs.

Chester told Jon Kirby of Jayhawk Slant that KU’s coaches “were showing me constant love all of the time” as they recruited him.

“I feel like they have a great recruiting class coming in from 2021 and I think their program is going to make a big change,” Chester told Jayhawk Slant. “I think it can become a real powerhouse. I think it is somewhere I can go and perform and build a legacy there.”

It had been almost three months since KU added a commitment to its 2022 recruiting class before Chester joined the group on the first day of March. The Jayhawks lost a couple of recruits in January, following the departure of former offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon.

Verbal commitments are nonbinding, and can’t become official until the December signing period at the earliest.
