Kansas softball secures series victory over Kansas City

In a brief from Big 12 action, the Kansas softball team secured a series victory over Kansas City this past weekend at Arrocha Ballpark. The Jayhawks (19-15) won the opener and the finale, while losing Game 2 on Saturday.

The opener took place Saturday afternoon, and KU cruised to a 11-6 victory. The Jayhawks strung together four different innings of scoring multiple runs. Eight different players recorded at least one hit, starting with a solo blast from redshirt junior Sydnee Ramsey.

In the nightcap of the doubleheader, Kansas dropped a 8-6 decision to Kansas City. The visitors were able to score four runs in the final inning to defeat KU.

For the day, the Jayhawks finished with 18 hits and 17 RBIs between the two games. Ramsey and junior Morgyn Wynne each finished the day with two home runs. Ramsey finished with three hits, which was tied with Cheyenne Hornbuckle for the lead. Wynne paced KU with five RBIs on Saturday.

In Sunday’s series finale, redshirt junior Shelby Gayre and sophomore Ashlyn Anderson both clubbed home runs during KU’s 7-3 victory. Angela Price also recorded her first career hit with a base knock during a three-run effort in the bottom of the fourth.

KU pitcher Hailey Reed earned the win in the circle to improve to 6-2 on the year. She finished with three strikeouts over four innings before Kasey Hamilton closed things out with 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn her first save.

Kansas will travel to Missouri at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
