KU volleyball suffers three-set loss to Oklahoma

By Staff Report     Oct 17, 2020

The Kansas volleyball team dropped its second consecutive match to Oklahoma with a three-set loss Saturday afternoon at McCasland Field House. The Jayhawks are now 1-7 on the year, while the Sooners improved to 2-4.

Kansas jumped out to a five-point lead in each of the first two sets, but was unable to maintain that early momentum against Oklahoma. The Sooners recorded a 28-26 win in the first set and netted a 25-22 victory in the second set. OU won a back-and-forth battle in the third set by 25-20 margin.

“We jumped out to leads and we didn’t protect them,” KU coach Ray Bechard said in a team release. “We will get back to work Monday and this team will be intent on getting better with the opportunity to flip a few of those close games.”

KU’s attack was led by Ayah Elnady, who finished with eight kills and two aces. Anezka Szabo finished with six kills and three blocks, while Caroline Crawford and Rachel Langs tied for the team lead with four blocks each.

Kansas will travel to TCU for a two-match slate next week. The first match will begin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
