Kansas tennis coach Todd Chapman on Friday announced the addition of highly rated Russian prospect Maria Titova to the KU roster for the 2020-21 season.

A native of Volzhsky, Russia, Titova is ranked on the Universal Tennis Ratings scale along with the Women’s Tennis Association and International Tennis Federation junior rankings.

Her ITF mark of 399th in the world is a career best for the 19-year-old future Jayhawk.

“We are thrilled to add a player of Maria’s ability to our tennis program,” Chapman said in a news release. “We believe Maria has the ability to really impact our lineup next year.”

Added Titova in the release: “I am keen on the prospect of developing my tennis, academics and my personality at Kansas.”

Titova joins recent transfer Tiffany Lagarde as the latest members of KU’s 2020-21 signing class.

“We look forward to the additions of Maria and Tiffany to our program next year,” Chapman said, “and believe our team is in a great position to compete with anyone.”
