KU baseball splits doubleheader with Ball State

The Kansas baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Ball State at the First Pitch Invitational in Greenville, S.C.

KU knocked off Ball State, 9-3, in the early game Saturday behind a strong pitching performance by reigning Big 12 Newcomer of the Week Everhett Hazelwood.

Hazelwood pitched six innings and struck out five to grab the win.

Zach Hanna led the KU offense with a double and three RBIs, and shortstop Benjamin Sems and third baseman Skyler Messinger each drove in two runs as well.

Kansas (5-5) scored seven runs in the sixth inning to blow the game open.

The Jayhawks dropped Game 2, 7-4, after recording just six hits and failing to take full advantage of three BSU errors.

Kansas led 4-2 heading into the sixth inning but gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth and three more in the bottom of the seventh.
