It was fitting that the Kansas women’s basketball team ended its losing skid against Texas.
The Jayhawks started what would end up being a seven-game skid with an 85-77 road loss to Texas on Jan. 22. On Saturday, KU got back in the win column for the first time since Jan. 18 and got some revenge with an 82-67 victory over Texas in Allen Fieldhouse.
Texas (15-9, 7-5 Big 12) jumped out to a 23-20 advantage in the first quarter, but Kansas responded by holding the opposition to just 8 points in the second quarter. KU (13-11, 2-11 Big 12) scored 21 points in the second period to grab a 41-31 advantage at halftime, and was in control after that.
The Jayhawks finished things off with a 29-point outburst in the final period to net their second league win of the season.
Aniya Thomas led the offensive attack with 21 points, but she had plenty of support. Tina Stephens and Zakiyah Franklin each recorded 14 points, while Mariane De Carvalho finished with 12 points.
Texas had three different players finish in double figures. Joyner Holmes had a team-high 17 points, while Celeste Taylor tallied 16 points. Charli Collier added 12 points for the Longhorns, who have now dropped back-to-back games to Iowa State and Kansas.
Kansas will travel to West Virginia at 4 p.m. Saturday.
