The Kansas tennis team closed out its opening weekend Sunday after competing at the Marliss Gruver Fall Invitational in Auburn, Ala., and Wahoowa Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
In Auburn, the Jayhawks came up short in their final day of competition. Sophomore Julia Deming fell in straight sets of the flight B (orange) singles final, 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Vasiliki Karvouni and her partner also lost in their respective final in flight B (orange) doubles final, 6-3.
In Virginia, KU’s Maria Toran Ribes and Malkia Ngounoue split the day with a loss and a win to close out the Wahoowa Invitational. Ribes finished out her series with a three-set match that ended in a 7-6, 6-7, 11-9 victory. Unable to follow suit, Ngounoue, dropped a 6-3, 3-6, 13-11 match against her Princeton opponent.
It came one day after Ribes and Ngounoue finished as doubles champions Saturday morning.
KU tennis will travel to the SMU Invitational next weekend.
