Becki Monaghan started the inning with a walk and later scored on a Miranda Rodriguez infield single. Iowa State (29-22, 5-11) responded in the bottom of the third, netting one run on a double to left center.

KU again jumped ahead in the fifth on a Morgyn Wynne double to right center that scored Brittany Jackson, but the Cyclones tied the game in the bottom half.

After Kansas recorded the first out of the inning in the bottom of the ninth, Iowa State tallied the walk-off on a solo home run by Sami Williams.

The second game of the series is slated to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
