Behind an 8-under score in the final round, the Kansas men’s golf team climbed up the leaderboard to claim a runner-up finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Invitational. The Jayhawks shot an 849 (-15) for their fifth finish inside the top-five this season.
Senior Charlie Hillier led the way by notching the top spot on the individual leaderboard, shooting 3-under on the day and 13-under (203) overall. Hillier’s victory marks his first ever first place finish in his collegiate career, and his fifth top-five finish since coming to Kansas. The senior finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Rory Franssen from Missouri.
Redshirt freshman Jeff Doty and junior Andy Spencer tied as the Jayhawks’ second best finishers at the tournament coming in at 22nd overall. Doty shot 1-under in the final round, while Spencer shot 2-under in the final round. They both finished the tournament with 215 (-1) overall scores.
Sophomore Ben Sigel improved his score by five strokes from round two, shooting 2-under on the day and 221 (+5) for the tournament. Sophomore Harry Hillier finished with a 225 (+9) overall score. KU ended up seven strokes behind South Carolina, which won the tournament.
KU will compete in the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Charlotte, N.C on April 6-7.
