Despite staying within single digits for 33 of the 40 minutes, the Kansas women's basketball team couldn't close out an upset over No. 19 Iowa State in a 69-49 loss Monday night at Hilton Coliseum.

The Jayhawks (12-17, 2-16 Big 12) were led by senior Christalah Lyons with 13 points, while tying her season-best mark of seven rebounds. Senior Austin Richardson contributed 11 points and eight rebounds, and freshman Aniya Thomas added 11 points.

Iowa State (23-7, 13-5) had four double-digit scoring performances on the night. Senior Bridget Carleton led the Cyclones with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore Kristin Scott added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Ashley Joens and sophomore Madison Wise registered 13 points and 11 points, respectively.

The Jayhawks will travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for the Big 12 Championship this weekend.

Mercifully we have an end to this regular season nightmare. Now go to the Big Twelve Tournament to take one more beating and it is completely over. Time to get P5 coaching staff.

Very disappointing season. It's time to say goodbye to Schneider.

So are we looking at another coaching search, or what? Jeez.

Worst stretch of KU basketball ever. You could see this in season one. This clown won a whopping 7, count 'em 7, Big 12 games in 4 yrs.

I think Long needs to. This is KU basketball, and it deserves the best. The ladies program has been mired in mediocrity for far too long. I would think KU would be a destination school for a top tier coach. Who wouldn't want to coach in Allen Field House, the holy cathedral of college basketball?

True. And don't bring in some JUCO or Div II coach who has won a ton of games against crap competition -- it doesn't translate to Div 1. Go snag a LEGIT coach from a successful Div 1 program.
