Emilianov earns All-America honors in discus

Kansas sophomore Alexandra Emilianov earned First Team All-America honors in the women’s discus by finishing fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Emilianov, a product of Chisinau, Moldova, earned the fourth-place finish with a season-best mark of 58.90 meters (193-3 ft.), which proved to be the fourth-best throw in Kansas women’s history. The First Team All-America honor marked the fifth in the event in Kansas women’s history alongside Abby Emsick (2007) and Jessica Maroszek (2011, 2013-14).

The fourth-place finish gave the Kansas women’s team five points, the only points scored for the Jayhawks in the meet, which placed them in a tie for 41st in the team standings.
