Still five months away from their first chance to sign recruits in the Class of 2020, the football coaches at Kansas are off to a significant head start on the 2021 batch.

A receiver heading into his junior year at Lancaster High (Texas), Majik Rector announced Tuesday his verbal commitment to the Jayhawks.

As of now, Rivals doesn’t have the 5-foot-9 receiver rated in its database. However, 247 Sports lists Rector as a three-star prospect.

Rector reportedly also has offers from Texas Tech, Rutgers and a few other non-Power Five programs. He is currently the only 2021 prospect committed to KU.

KU’s 2020 recruiting class took off in June, with the list of commitments to head coach Les Miles’ program growing to 21.

All verbal commitments, of course, are nonbinding. The earliest any of KU’s 2020 recruits can sign and make their ties to the program official is December. And it will be another year after that before Rector would be able to sign.
